HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam welcomes the intensified co-operation between the US and the Asia-Pacific, including Viet Nam, on the principle of respecting the United Nations Charter, international law, and countries’ political institution, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Politburo member and Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang said this during a meeting with the US State Department’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asia and the Pacific, Scot Marciel, in Washington D.C. on Sunday.
He said he was delighted at the continuous development of bilateral relations in socio-economics, crime prevention and security-defence, especially after the establishment of comprehensive partnership in July, 2013.
Quang said Viet Nam had made significant achievements in national development and protection, raising its global standing.
He said that Viet Nam consistently pursued a foreign policy of independence, peace, co-operation and development; multilateralisation and diversification of relations; and pro-active international integration.
Marciel described Quang’s visit as a promising start to activities to be held this year in celebration of the 20th founding anniversary of relations.
Visiting the Vietnamese Embassy on the same day, the minister said Viet Nam treasured its comprehensive partnership with the US and asked the embassy staff to devote themselves to realising pledges and agreements, fostering high-ranking visits, and facilitating collaboration between sectors and localities in the two countries.
He also requested the staff enhance the protection of the rights of overseas Vietnamese and impart Party and State guidelines and policies to expatriates. — VNS
