Prayer 441

The prayer series

Jesus,

I think about an image –
Mary used a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume;
poured it on your feet
and wiped your feet with her hair.*

How did you feel?

Perhaps you didn’t care how your feet felt
although you liked the aroma of nard.
You cared for Mary.

Mary bowed down at your feet.
She hid her face from you.
She hid her tears from you.

Perhaps Mary didn’t care how your feet were
although she wiped your feet with her hair.
She cared for you.

Mary loved you.
Mary wanted to say to you,
“I love you.
Please don’t go far away from me;”
but she seemed too sorrow to say.

You loved Mary.
You wanted to say to her,
“I love you.
Please don’t hold on to me;”
but you seemed too sorrow to say.

So you and Mary
didn’t seem to say a single word to each other
but talked to each other a lot.

Love you, Jesus and Mary.

Amen.
