Prayer 672

The prayer series

Jesus,

What did you mean
“I am the vine;
you are the branches.
If you remain in me
and I in you,
you will bear much fruit;
apart from me you can do nothing.”*?

Your last words to your disciples
before you were crucified.

Why did you say that?

What was an important thing you wanted to stress here?

We needed to know “we are who we are”?

Knowing
“I am the vine’s branch
and you are the vine”
was the important thing?

Perhaps you knew
people often forgot “who I am”.
So you said these words as your last words
and you hoped people lived with the knowledge.
Living as the vine’s branches.
Living clinging to you.

Love you, Jesus.

Amen.
