Failure is the mother of success ?
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Those with some life experience immediately understand the saying “Failure is the mother of success” to mean that your mistakes and failures are vital lessons for your future success. The more mistakes and failures we encounter, the wiser we become.
Yet, that interpretation isn’t entirely accurate.
We know that we often hear “no” more than “yes”—in retail, perhaps only one out of ten customers who browse your shop actually makes a purchase; during tough economic times, one must tap into niche markets and overhaul the company’s mindset and management—often involving miscalculations here and there that require constant adjustments to navigate the “new wave” until things are near-perfect; applying for a study-abroad scholarship might result in twenty rejections before the twenty-first attempt succeeds; or pursuing a lovely young woman who politely declines every invitation for ice cream—yet, if you persist, she might eventually grow weary of saying “no” and finally say “yes” after the fiftieth attempt…
That is life—we encounter “no” more often than “yes.” Therefore, “no” is not a failure but a natural step toward “yes”: Each “NO” is a step closer to “YES.”
When we grasp this, we realize there is no such thing as failure or success—every step is simply a natural part of the journey; we reach different points along the path depending on time, circumstance, and chance. In other words, there is no “mother” and no “child”; every step is simply a sibling to the others on the same road.
So, fellow travelers, remain serene, sing out, and walk on in the sunshine.
With compassion,
Hoành
