The North Vietnamese ( NVA) forces suffered huge losses in men and materiel. The bulk of the ground fighting was carried by the South Vietnamese Army (ARVN) who defended their country ferociously. They still do not receive adequate credit and recognition.

The Easter offensive was a massive conventional attack with armored vehicles and other support provided by the Soviets and Red Chinese. The ARVN were bolstered by American advisers and air and naval power (the big naval guns were knocking out Soviet-built T-72 tanks).

The NVA were not entirely driven from the country, but ARVN re-took key areas in bitter fighting. The media and anti-war forces gave them little credit which helped pave the way for America’s shameful abandonment of our allies . Still, the ARVN bought their country another three years of life.
