The root of corruption

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We all know that there are lots of corrupted officials – some are vacationing in jail, many others are still undiscovered by the government. I am using corruption as an example, but this article is really for every other sin of the society.

Do you know the reason for corruption to run rampant out of control? Weak law? Weak law enforcement?

Those reasons may have something to do with it, but they are what on the surface only. Deep down, there is a reason much easier to see. That is, the corrupted officials care about themselves, and don’t care about their government, their country, their đồng bào (brothers and sisters). If they really care for their government, country and đồng bào, they wouldn’t be corrupted.

Every other sin is like that. If you think and care about yourself only, you automatically don’t care about anyone else, and you will be ready to commit all kinds of sins and unethical acts.

Law and law enforcement can only help little, but they can’t really solve the problem, because law and government cannot follow and control innumerable unethical officials and their corrupted friends. Too many for the police and the court to stamp down.

The problem can be solved only when many people in the government start to feel caring for the people and the country. They have to see a larger picture of whom they are serving, instead of seeing only their deep pockets.

Corruption is a spiritual and ethical issue, not really a legal and administrative issue.

People need to be encouraged to be spiritual and ethical, from grade school to post-doctorate and throughout their life. We need to produce people with a heart for their country and their đồng bào. We need to start with Đọt Chuối Non – we together in this vườn chuối need to practice caring for our country and our people. And we encourage others to do the same.

Everything has to start somewhere. We cannot talk and don’t practice. Let’s practice being spiritual and ethical, caring for our country and our đồng bào. Then we can encourage other to do the same. Please!

Wish we all care about our country and our đồng bào.

With compassion,

Mến,

Hoành
