Below is a thanks note from Lê Phan Hiên Vy to an unnamed English teacher who is also a ĐCN admin. It is so mysterious that it took me hours to analyze, test, and cross out each name–Loan Subaru, Thùy Dương, Hiển and even me–to finally come up with the most plausible choice–chị Huệ. I am confident that this is the right name, after such a vigorous screening process. 🙂

For my big teacher
Today is not Teacher’s or Women’s day. But I choose this day to express my feeling about a very important person that changed my life: My big English teacher.
I must admit that I was very afraid of you in the early days when I was first studied in your class (I have to use passive voice because to study in your class is not a simple thing in some way). You were so strict with us that whenever we went to the class, we were very “stressful”. But thanks to your strictness, my friends and I were more and more good at English and we now realise our dream: we all passed and win our place in our university. And you must be very happy to hear this: I am one of three candidates who get highest mark in Faculty of Business Administration in my university!
For me, to meet you is my luck, and my destiny. I was not a good English student but after three years being taught by you, I archived many things that I had never thought I could do that just only one time in my life. Though what I gained were not as good as what your other excellent students did, I am always very proud of them and my biggest pride is being your student. You not only teach me knowledge, but also lessons of dream and belief. You showed me that if I believe in myself, I can do everything. You lit my dream up and made me believe in myself, and it can be said that my feeling for you are so strong that the word “love” can not describe them.
I am now a bird with my wings spreading fully in my blue sky, but I will never forget my nest, where I learned every thing from you to flap my wings and fly higher and higher. I will be far away from you but my heart is always near you, as long as you think that I am besides you.
I wish you health and luck to go on teaching other little birds so that they can win their own success just like I do. I did, I do and I will always try my best to become a successful person. I believe each of my success is a gift for you, and I promise that you will receive more gifts in the future. Believe in me.

Hello,sis Vien Hy.
I’m also a pupil from Ms.Hue’s gang and I have been taught by her for 4 years.The longer I learn, the more words I want to say to her, but I don’t know how and when to say.Thanks to your thank-you note I now have a chance to do it.
First,I want to thank Mr. Hoang for having posted your note so that all Ms.Hue’s present and old pupils can share their feelings with one another.And also for an entry about Daklak which was recently posted although he isn’t living here.Then,let me congratulate you on your high results.You’re setting a good example for us,sis.Being learned in Ms.Hue ‘s class isn’t easy at all, as did most pupils,I was stressful,tense and nervous 4 years ago.I had the first impression that “she ‘s tough” and this scared me for a very very long time before.Indeed I was frightened of coming to her class.However, things are completely different at the moment.As the time passed, I realise she is kind, profound and dedicated to her teaching career.She cares for all her pupils and has a sense of humor,too.Good words you and others have said so I don’t have anything to say,but I deeply want is to “thanks for all the lessons you did, do and will(may I copy your saying sis Vien Hy,hihi) teach us,Ms.Hue.You’re one of the greatest teachers I have ever met.I have to admit Meeting you is my luck and my destiny.You give me so big and large wings that I don’t fear English any more. I always find it awkward to express my feelings through words. Therefore, I think Vien Hy did such a good job in helping students like me to show how we really feel about Miss. Hue. To me, she is more than just a teacher. I actually learned a lot from her.

Xin được dùng tiếng mẹ đẻ- để mình bày tỏ cảm nhận tự nhiên nhất ( để thầy giáo dạy văn Tấn Ái thấy mình rất yêu quý tiếng Việt )
Cám ơn hai bạn đồng nghiệp Ái và Trâm về những chia sẻ này.
Trng cuộc đời dạy học 34 năm, những tình cảm của học trò dù là các BS như Yến và Giang, thế hệ bố mẹ, hay thế hệ thứ hai:các học sinh PT hiện tại, hoặc đã là sinh viên đang học ở xa VN. ( Ngân và Ngọc Anh đang về nghỉ hè ở quê nhà) đều có ý nghĩa rất lớn, rất quí báu đối với cô.
Yến ơi, người đưa đò nào cũng vui mừng khi biết những người mình đưa một chặng đò tiếp tục nhiều chuyến đò tri thức trong đời và cứ thế đi xa hơn đến một nơi là đích đến của mỗi người. Như thế dù nhưng người ấy có quay về bến xưa hay không thì mình cũng lấy làm mãn nguyện.
Chỉ mong một điều, những bài học ban đầu các em học được trong cái tổ be bé có thể inspire cho các em tiếp tục yêu thích và học tập, ứng dụng Tiếng Anh ở những cấp độ khác nhau trong nhiều lĩnh vực học tập cao hơn và trong thực tiễn công tác như Giang và Yến vậy.
Ai đó nói cuộc đời là một hành trình đi tìm hạnh phúc. Hạnh phúc ấy với mình rất giản đơn là tình yêu cuộc sống này, mà trong đó tình yêu dành cho học trò là một phần rất quan trọng, là động lực cho minh trong nghề nghiệp và tinh thần.
Những hoài bão chưa thành, những ước mơ chưa đạt đến xin trao hết cho học trò, như thế tự hỏi mình có hạnh phúc không? Câu trả lời đâu khó.
Nhân lá thư cám ơn bất ngờ này của Viên Hy, cô và các em có một dịp trải lòng, một việc cô vốn không quen. Nhưng đã có những giọt nước mắt cảm động của cô. Như thế cũng là hạnh phúc .
Xin cám ơn tất cả các em về những gì đã chia sẻ với cô. Cô sẽ cố để không phải là một người gieo hay gây nhiều stress / pressure cho các em những ngày tới. Nhưng có một điều mà cô tin bằng kinh nghiệm của chính mình :

Đọc bài viết của Hiên Vy , của mọi người em thấy có cùng một điểm giống nhau khi đươc làm học trò của cô, và em cũng dzậy cô à.
” Ít nhất trong đời cũng bị cô mắng cho một lần và khắc ghi những lời măng sợ lúc đó nhưng mĩm cười sau này phải không các bạn?”
Nhớ ngày đầu tiên được cô cho vào tham dự lớp anh văn dành cho những người ngành Y trong bệnh viện tỉnh, vừa mừng, vừa lo, không biết có theo được không…từ một người lơ mơ, chập choạng…để rồi sau một đoạn đường tuy không liên tục như các em phổ thông nhưng cô đã làm em say mê, có một lần phát âm không chuẩn (do không tra tự điển) bị cô la đọc bậy, em hứa với lòng sẽ không tái phạm nữa, chính nhờ vậy mà khi tiếp xúc với người nước ngoài, thấy họ khen em đọc, nói tót , tự hào quá phải không cô? Em còn nhớ lời cô nói ” Tiếng anh không phải là nghề mà nó là công cụ để người ta sử dụng đúng mục đích mà họ cần”.
Cám ơn cô đã cho em một mái chèo khá vững chắc để em ra khơi và theo đuổi nghề nghiệp của mình cho đến ngày hôm nay .

One person that stays behind my achievements is “co”. Our English group has always called her that way as the most respectful and beloved tact. Whenever I go back to my little Ban Me, the very first person I go out to visit is “co”. That has become a route in mind that I takes for granted and haven’t recognized until I read Vy’s entry. The topic of us, old classmates has always been: Di tham co chua? Co gi moi khoe co khong, coi chung bi la…
I don’t need to repeat how I feel about Co as we all share the same love and training from her. What we write is still humble compared to our real empathy as there are things that cannot be voiced by words.
It has been three years since I left the small classroom. Still unable to explain the comfort out of the room that inspires and encourages us. Those days we didn’t use blackboard that much. Those day we didn’t have computers there and we had to wait weeks to have a good dictionary. But whenever we enter the room, we feel like energized to compete with each other. I remember bringing very big dictionary every class, which makes me noticed on the street. But I never mind but help feeling proud. And I can say those day we were so honored to be there
I like English as if it is in blood. I have honour to attend thay Toan anh Co’s class. It is the turning point that English creates my future path. All those thing I acquire now, though still humble, have its root from the time I was her student. Have to say I burst into tears, cold and introvert as I am, when I cast my mind back to those days though Vy’s words.
A bunch of thanks from my heart to my teacher of a lifetime.

Em cũng thật sự không ngờ rằng qua những lời chia sẻ giản dị, chân thành xuất phát từ trái tim mình mà đã làm cho nhiều học sinh của cô có dịp bày tỏ tình cảm của mình với cô như vậy. Em phải thú nhận rằng em đã suy nghĩ việc này trong suốt thời gian em thi đại học, vì em còn không dám gọi điện thoại cho cô nữa huống gì bày tỏ cảm xúc. Nhưng em nghĩ không có một trái tim nào đóng kín quá lâu trước một tấm lòng chân thành, vì em biết cô bề ngoài rất lạnh lùng và khắc khe nhưng bên trong là ” a big warm heart”. Ý tưởng này đã có từ lâu, nhưng em ko biết phải làm gì mới bày tỏ đc lòng em nên em chọn điều giản dị nhất mà em có thể làm. Em rất vui vì nhân dịp này mà cô biết rõ hơn tấm lòng học sinh của mình.
Em đã chép phản hồi của cô vào cuốn sổ tay riêng để mỗi khi thiếu niềm tin hoặc bế tắc trong cuộc sống, em sẽ đọc lại và nó sẽ là ánh lửa soi sáng giúp em tìm lại con đường của chính mình. Em tính in ra nhưng có lẽ chép tay thì hay hơn phải ko cô 😀
@ cô Yến: Con có nghe cô Huệ nói cô Yến là học trò cũng như em của cô Huệ. Cô Yến ơi, con nghĩ đã là học trò thì sẽ là học trò mãi mãi, ko giới hạn về thời gian ^^. Phải nói chúng ta là những người có được sự may mắn lớn khi được học tập và làm việc cùng cô Huệ.
Em luôn mong cô có đủ sức khoẻ và niềm vui để đưa nhiều thế hệ tiếp theo “đến bến bờ tri thức”!

Hi chị Huệ,
Đọc những lời cám ơn chân thành của học trò dành cho chị trên ĐCN hai ngày qua, cũng như các em học trò của chị, đã nhiều lần em rơi nước mắt! Tình cảm của các em dành cho chị chân thành quá, trong sáng quá! Trên ĐCN này, từ những khoá đầu tiên của Bích Thành (hay phải kể trước đó xa nữa, từ em là cô học trò chỉ có duyên học với chị hai tháng ngắn ngủi nhưng lại có duyên làm em của chị 23 năm nay) đến lớp trẻ nhất là Mr Clown.. chị đã là người lái đò đưa biết bao nhiêu thế hệ học trò sang bờ tri thức. Banglangtim, Bích Thành, Quân, Viên Hy, Việt Quang và tất cả các bạn góp lời cám ơn trên ĐCN hôm nay đã chia sẻ những cảm nhận, những kỷ niệm rất dễ thương và cảm động. Em đồng cảm với các bạn về việc may mắn biết chừng nào em và các bạn mới có duyên làm học trò của chị, vì ngoài việc học kiến thức, tụi em còn học được rất nhiều từ một Nhân cách lớn như chị.
Đối với chị, có lẽ không gì quý giá hơn tình cảm thương yêu và trân trọng của học trò dành cho chị. Em đã thấy bao nhiêu thế hệ học trò tìm về với chị, như với một người bạn lớn, để chia sẻ mọi điều. Hôm nay, Viên Hy- được sự góp sức của anh Hoành, đã bắn phát pháo đầu tiên để các bạn có dịp bày tỏ lòng mình với chị. Em biết là chị đã rơi nước mắt, không chỉ một lần! Cám ơn anh Hoành, Viên Hy và các bạn! Chúc mừng chị có những giọt nước mắt hạnh phúc!

Ms Hue is the most wonderful teacher I’ve ever learn.
Quả thật e rất thích anh văn, và từ khi được học cô Huệ, môn Tiếng Anh cuả e tiến bộ hẳn. Tuy rằng e ko phải là một học sinh giỏi trong nhóm của cô dạy, nhưng e đã học đc rất nhiều từ khi đi học cô. Cô có một phương pháp dạy tuyệt vời, chưa bao giờ e cảm thấy như vậy với bất kì một giáo viên nào khác. Cảm giác run run khi tới nhà cô học là dĩ nhiên, nhưng khi đã vào lớp và bắt đầu học thì cảm giác đó ko còn nữa! E cảm ơn cô rất nhiều.

Let me have a word with Vien Hy, a representative of my big group of students.
You are UNIQUE, Vien Hy. Indeed, I was moved to tears when I read your soulful thank you note again this morning.
I feel proud of your determined efforts and initial success in your studying.
I guess you and all my students know your love, affection and achievements are sources of my love of life, my career, my motivation and my happiness.
You are now about to spread your wings and fly higher in a bigger sky. I do believe you’ll have greater successes in the future so long as you try your best.

Chào các bạn, mình rất tự hào cũng đã từng là hoc trò của cô Huệ từ khóa Tiếng Anh đầu tiên (k17) của trường Cao Đẳng Sư Phạm Đak Lak , các bạn biết không thời gian đó tụi mình học còn thiếu thốn nhiều thứ lắm từ trang thiết bị dạy học đến cả kiến thức Tiếng Anh của tụi mình cũng hạn chế lắm nhưng cái được là tụi mình có những thầy cô giáo thật tuyệt vời nhưng cũng rất nghiêm khắc đặc biệt là Cô Huệ, nên đến giờ học của cô thì đúng là ” stressful” thật , có những lúc tụi mình trả lời những câu hỏi của Cô thật là ngớ ngẩn bị cô mắng, nhưng rồi từ những lỗi sai đó Cô lại dạy cho tụi em biết cách học hiệu quả hơn. Bây giờ nhũng bạn của khóa 17 của mình đã trưởng thành và có những thành công nhất định trong đó có mình mặc dù ngày xưa mình học rất bình thường, nhưng sau khi ra trường mình đã học được rất nhiều từ những kinh nghiệm dạy học thực tế, cách sống của Cô ( đúng như nhận xét của chị pky), Cô luôn tận tình với những học trò của mình, nhiều lúc Cô làm việc nhiều, bận rộn nhưng khi tui mình có những khó khăn trong việc áp dụng phương pháp giảng dạy mới vào tiết dạy cần sự giúp đỡ là Cô luôn sẵn lòng, và cộng với sự nỗ lực của bản thân mình nữa.
Cô ơi, qua bài viết này em muốn gửi đến Cô lòng biết ơn sâu sắc, những bài học từ Cô, kể cả phong cách sống của giúp chúng em trưởng thành hơn, em luôn cầu chúc cho Cô sức khỏe thật nhiều để Cô dạy dỗ cho thế hệ sau của tụi em cô nhé.

Like Vien Hy, I’m a pupil of Miss Hue. That name is very familiar and close to me. Almost people find it difficult to show their feelings for someone who they love much. But in this case, Hy had enough courage to do that. How admirable!
Miss Hue has had great efforts to fulfill her responsibilities the best way and devoted her life to help the young have success in the future. Only by trying to study hard and gained many success, we can make her satisfied.
With what she have done and will do, I wish God will beside, wish her well and pay her appropriately.

Em rất tán thành với lời nói của mọi người, rằng cô Huệ là một cô giáo tuyệt vời. Từ nhỏ tới giờ em học môn anh văn cực kì dở, nhưng từ ngày được học ở cô, em thấy mình có được tiến bộ ( tuy nhỏ xíu thôi) khiến em ngày càng tự tin hơn. Em nhớ lần đầu đến nhà cô học, em sợ lắm, vì em được biết cô rất nghiêm khắc và chúng em cũng phải cố gắng nhiều mới theo kịp bài giảng của cô. Bữa đó đi học em thấy lo lắng, không biết cô có bực vì mình học dở không ( bây giờ em vẫn còn dở nhất trong lớp). Nhưng đó chỉ là cảm giác ban đầu thôi, còn giờ đây em nhận ra rằng cô tốt lắm, bởi vì với tất cả các bạn cô đều luôn tận tình giảng bài, thậm chí với đứa kém như em cô cũng không trách nhiều ( mỗi lúc cô động viên là em vui dễ sợ).
Mặc dù từ trước tới giờ em chưa đạt thành tích gì nhiều (bởi vì cứ lẹt đẹt, chậm chạp theo sau bạn bè ), nhưng mỗi lần đi học cô em cảm thấy vui, tự nhiên em thấy mình có tự tin hơn nhiều ghê lắm, và em luôn hy vọng nhờ những buổi học với cô thế này em chắc chắn sẽ có ngày nào đó tiến xa.
Nếu mà có ai hỏi: “Con học anh văn thầy cô nào mà khá vậy?” (tương lai thôi) thì chắc chắn em sẽ rất hãnh diện được trả lời là: “Dạ, con học cô Huệ đó bác”
Khi ở nhà mẹ là cô giáo
Khi đến trường cô giáo như mẹ hiền.
Em mong cô sức khoẻ dồi dào để tiếp tục dạy dỗ chúng em.

I just have one thing to say: you are the greatest teacher I have ever met. I have learned from you not only your vast knowledge but also your determination. You are a shining example to me. Nothing can put obstacles in your way.The first time I went to your class, I felt very nervous. I didn’t know how to speak fluently all the words, but you gave me confidence. Without your enormous help, I couldn’t make a lot of progress now.
We are like small birds. Every time we try to fly, we fail because our wings are too small. Ms Hue, you wing our dreams, you offer us encouragement. I don’t know how to express my gratitude to you. I promise I will try my best to achieve success and I won’t make you disappointed. Believe me.
Recently, it seems you aren’t so well. You should take care of yourself. Illness can be brought on by a combination of overwork and poor diet.
“Never too old to learn” this quotation is always right 🙂

Hi sister Hien Vy,
Reading your writing makes my tears are spoiling for sheding… I don’t know why, maybe because we both have the same feeling, and the same as all students who used to be or are being taught by Ms Hue. It’s a great honour, you know ^^ .
I still distinctly remember my first day studying at her class in grade 6: as having heard about her strictness, my friend and I feel really nervous and..scared too. But her warmly smile, which I remembered the most, made all our anxiety pass away. After introducing ourself, the class started, but not in an ordinary way (which is immediately going to new lessons) she gave us some useful advices when learning english as well as other subjects. The more classes I attend the more priceless lessons and interesting I feel. In truth, until now I don’t think Ms Hue is strict or severity like other people say, she always tries her best to teach to inspire her love using and learning English to students.
Without her devoted teaching “ I won’t be myself today“ . Meeting Ms Hue is also my luck and destiny. I don’t have any more beautiful words to use than other did to show their loves, but she will be my best the teacher forever and the image of a teacher carefully marked each exercises will always in my heart, trust!
P/s: I wish you health and happiness. Thank you very much for everything you have done for us, my big teacher you’ll always be in my heart ^^

Cảm ơn mọi người rất nhiều. Muốn comment riêng từng người nhưng mà em ko biết nói thế nào hết, chỉ biết cảm ơn thôi và những gì cần nói thì em đã nói hết ở trên rồi ^^

I’m a high school student and I’m also taught by Miss Hue. First I must congratulation on your achievements in university. Next, I think all students who have ever been learned a lot from Miss Hue feel stressful and being afraid of her. I haven’t graduated from high school yet and I also haven’t ever recorded achievements like you so I can’t understand all your feelling. But I agree that Miss Hue is very strict and thanks to her strictness I studied harder. You’re right! She taught us not only knowledge but also dreams and belief. She used to tell us about her dreams, it’s admirable and lofty. It’s unbelievable that hiding behind strictness is a fervid soul and a deicated heart. I’m very proud of being Miss Hue’s student, you helped me express my thanks and love to her. Wish you health and success.Thank you.

Your entry has risen so much consensus from Miss Hue’s students. I’m one of them. Now, reading and replying your post, I ruminate about those days with her. I used to have most of your listed feeling when I was studying at her house. And I think almost her students feel the same. Let me see, 3 years passed, coming back the old studying room, I thought that I had just left that room for 3 days. Those old wooden desks and chairs, which accompanied so many generations of her students,have shared with them knowledge, advice and even apprehension due to Miss Hue’s strictness. However, first sighted fear was gradually displaced with meaningful and empathetic lessons because I realized and discovered a warm heart and solicitous eyes hiding behind those strict lessons and punishments.
It might be already a procedure to pass a test before becoming her students. Hence, I trust you, Vien Hy and all the rest of her beloved students. You guys will success either way in you life because less or more have you received from her experience. Provided that you trust yourself and spread your wings as far as you can, you can archive more than what you expect. Continue to nurture and cherish your dream, which will give you strength, motivation and aspiration to lead your life without regretting.

Hi sister Vien Hy,
I’ve read your post about our English teacher: Miss Huệ and I have nothing to say about your writing as well as your love to her.
I agree with you that she is the most strictful teacher I’ve ever studied, and she scared me many times. Sometimes, I’m angry, very angry with what she told me. But when I think about it, I realize that all what she did is to help us try harder in studying. And I think you let her know all what her students want to say. Your writing is very emotional!!
About your achievement: congratulation!!! ^^

This is my last year study in high school. And I have to study many subjects to have good preparation for the most important exam in my life. So I hope you will help us with our study and also help us feel that every hours at your house are no longer stressful ^^. Now, I am still afraid of you, but less than the early days !^^!. It’s very difficult to say that you love anyone. But Vien Hy you did. Miss hue is a good and great teacher . She teaches us how to study well and how to be a good people.Anyway, thank Vien Hy , you are community of speech . I am sure that Miss Hue feel very happy and happy

About Ms Hue, she is the best teacher that i have ever
studied, just in one month, I was taught lots of things by her, from English to lifestyle, especially this website. Thank you very much, Ms Hue and everyone who in this topic

Hi my friends, felows of Miss Hue’s gang
Like you all, I’m filled with gratitude and inspiration whenever I think of Miss Hue.
She has taught me not only the best English lessons I have ever studied, but also the moral lessons of honesty, self confidence, diligence, responsibility, and especially, love. She seems to love all her students, old or young, even her old students’ children, in her own way, a very special one. I don’t know how to express her love for us, just one thing she loves us even though she is very strict with us about our laziness and misbehavior. Despite her serious manner, she has a good sense of humor in her stories. Our group used to have very interesting lessons full of laughter and interest aroused by her way of explanation or even motivation. My interest in English has multiplied and it changed my place in class and later in the national examination for the best students in English. I do owe her that honor and my humble success.
I’m now an adult with a good job in which I have to use English all time. I also have my own family, but I’ll never forget the happiest time I was at high school and what she has taught me in her English class.
It is our teacher that planted good seeds in our mind. I’m very thankful for all her lessons and love.
On the last Teacher’s Day I sent her my thank you note and this poem.I know she likes poetry very much because my sister used to be a student in her Literature class at college.
Recently I have asked her to let me send it to Đot Chuoi Non, but she disagreed. I think she just wants me to keep my admiration for her in my own heart. But thanks to Vien Hy and Uncle Hoanh, I now have a good opportunity to send her my thanks and share with my fellows our love for her.

Rất cảm động khi đọc lời tri ân của Hy dành cho chị Huệ. Mình tin là chị Huệ đang rất, rất cảm động đây! Hy và các bạn đã phát hiện ra một người bề ngoài có vẻ như “so strict” và gây “stressful” lại có trái tim nồng ấm và vị tha đến như thế nào! Bài viết của Hy dễ thương lắm. I think Miss Huệ will understand your feelings. I’m also a student, who is being taught by Miss Huệ.
Like you, I was always “stressful” when I went to the class. But now…I didn’t feel like that, I was very happy.
Miss Hue is really good-natured like the other women, she must do that to help her students learn more hard! I think it was successful!
Afterwards, if I am not taught by Miss Hue, I will still thank all her lessons. It’s really nescessary!

In truth, I’m so impressed with your writing, simple but good! It reminds me of Ms Hue, one of the best teachers I’ve met and learned from. In spite of my graduation from Daklak College’s Foreign Languages, I always keep what she taught and helped me in mind. It may be said that we’re so lucky and happy to get a lot of useful knowledge from her. To be honest, her English sent to me is like a passport that helps me open the door wide and set my foot in life. My today sucess is contributed remarkably from her. I’m proud of it. I’m proud that I was her student :).
By the way, Ms Hue, I’d like to send you many sincere thanks from me! :).
