Prayer 447

The prayer series

Jesus,

You say,
“Do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”(1)

Please let me trust in You with all my heart
and lean not on my own understanding. (2)

May Your good Spirit lead me on level ground. (3)

Amen.

Prayer 442

The prayer series

Jesus,

Do you think
if we have the right to Freedom of Association,
our volunteer activities will grow more,
and our youth will have many more things to live for and to love?

Our volunteering is weak now.
Volunteer groups are small.
They don’t work together like a large volunteer network.
And they are not solving important problems of our country.

Please bless us.
Let us know what we should do.

Amen.

Painting of West Lake by Hanoi-based artist George Burchett.

by George Burchett*

Around the time Admiral Charles Rigault de Genouilly (1807-1873), under the orders of Emperor Napoleon III, fired the first canon shots of the Cochinchina campaign (1858-1862) to lay claim to what would become France’s colony of Indochina, Paris embarked on an epic renovation project directed by Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann, also under the Emperor’s orders. The plan was to modernise Paris and get rid of insalubrious slums – breeding ground for diseases as well as popular discontent.  No doubt rich plunder from the colonies helped fund this – largely successful – imperial enterprise.

Lời cầu nguyện 439 – Prayer 439

Chuỗi bài cầu nguyện

Giêsu ơi,

Em yêu hình ảnh –
Mary dùng 1 lít dầu cam tùng nguyên chất, 1 loại dầu thơm đắt tiền;
đổ lên chân Giêsu
và lấy tóc mình lau chân Giêsu.*
Mỗi khi thấy hình ảnh đó,
em lại ngập tràn tình yêu.

Giêsu thích mùi dầu cam tùng?
Sao Mary biết Giêsu thích mùi đó? Continue reading Lời cầu nguyện 439 – Prayer 439

Nearly two-thirds of global workforce in the ‘informal’ economy – UN study

ILO/Vijay Kutty – Cycle rickshaw pullers in the old quarter of Delhi, India. According to a new ILO report, about 93 per cent of the world’s informal employment is in emerging and developing countries.

news.un.org – More than 61 per cent of the world’s employed population – two billion people – earn their livelihoods in the informal sector, the United Nations labour agency said on Monday, stressing that a transition to the formal economy is critical to ensure rights’ protection and decent working conditions.

The high incidence of informality in all its forms has multiple adverse consequences for workers, enterprises and societies and is a major challenge for the realization of decent work for all,” said Rafael Diez de Medina, the Director of the Department of Statistics at the UN International Labour Organization (ILO).
