Learning to live together

Dear brothers and sisters,

When I hear the news that Huế khôi phục dạy môn nữ công gia chánh trong trường học (my translation: woman’s skills and family management), I’m so happy. Schools should teach subjects like this – subjects about how to live together.

Previously, a friend of mine and I have talked about the topic: “We should open a school that teach girls act like a lady and teaching boys act like a gentleman. Surely many parents will want to bring their children to our school, because they know learning to live together is an important skill for their children’s future.”

Learning to live together is one in the four pillars of learning of the UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation). The UNESCO’s four pillars of learning: Learning to know, learning to do, learning to be, and learning to live together.

Schools should teach children and people about how to live together, at the most basic level, such as, how to eat, how to wear, how to walk… Eating like a lady or a gentleman. Wearing like a lady or a gentleman. Walking like a lady or a gentleman… Then how to talk like lady/gentleman to others, how to act like lady/gentleman  in front of others, how to interact like lady/gentleman with others…

How we act and behave in front of or toward others help making a civilized and peaceful society, or a savage and quarrelsome society.

If you are a woman and you don’t want to eat, wear, walk… like a woman, it’s ok. However you should know how a lady should eat, wear, walk… It’s responsibility of family, school and society. This is not a matter of sexism. Example: we can’t allow our child – a young girl – who sit without her legs closed or crossed while wearing a dress at people gatherings. We must say to her: “You are a girl and you can’t sit like that…” We should teach our children to love themselves as they are. Such as: Girls don’t need to follow boys by wearing like a boy, or acting like a boy. Girls are girls.

When we don’t know how to eat, wear, walk…, we can annoy many people. Many people may be stressed because of the way we live. It means that we don’t know how to live with people.

So, learning to live together is an important subject for all of us.

Have a nice day.
