Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Lương Bá Thám, 44, from the central province of Thanh Hóa, applied for jobs at three different firms in Hà Nội, but kept getting knocked back.Returning from working in South Korea, Thám attended several job introduction days.

“I applied at many different companies, but none of them got back to me after interviewing me,” he said.

Ho Dynasty Citadel – a stone wonder

The Ho Dynasty Citadel was Vietnam’s capital under the Ho Dynasty (1398-1407). Located in Vinh Loc district, it is the only citadel in Vietnam built entirely of stones and remained nearly intact.


The citadel has four gates placed following the cardinal points. In the photo is the Tien gate, facing south. It consists of three entrances, each is 9.5 m tall and 15.17 m wide.


An excavation in the southern gate unearthed a bluestone road connecting the entrance with the Nam Giao worship area. The inner road was considered the most intact among roads from the feudal period found in Vietnam.

Dengue fever rise in Hà Nội

HÀ NỘI — Dengue fever cases is on the rise in Hà Nội, as weather has been favourable to the development of infected mosquitoes.Statistics from the Hà Nội Health Department show that 1,281 cases of dengue fever were recorded in the city by June 4, 2.6 times more than the same period last year.

Of these, 126 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals and one person has reportedly died in Đống Đa District’s Trung Liệt Ward.

Vietnam’s first ‘book city’ opens in Binh Duong

The first-ever ‘book city’ in Vietnam welcomed its first visitors on Thursday inside a mega shopping mall in Binh Duong, a neighboring province of Ho Chi Minh City.

The 3,000 square meter ‘Phuong Nam Book City’ features 500,000 books and reading spaces aimed at attracting Vietnamese youth to the venue at AEON Mall Binh Duong Canary at No. 01 Binh Duong Boulevard, Thuan An Town.

“We wanted to create a unique space for books, a place where every book that a reader needs could be found,” said Ngo Le Huan, deputy director of Phuong Nam Corp (PNC), the company behind the mega bookstore.

When U.S. President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the 12-nation Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement in January, in the name of helping Americans, Vietnam noticed big time. Its economy depends increasingly on manufactured exports and the United States usually ranks within the top three markets for made-in-Vietnam goods. It won’t be enjoying tariff-free treatment in the United States, but it’s still looking forward to the similar perks of a free trade agreement signed in December 2015 with the half billion-population European Union.
