Châu Âu chìm trong khủng hoảng năng lượng. Các công ty châu Âu đang dần chuyển hướng sang Mỹ. Người Mỹ thì lợi dụng điều này để bán khí thiên nhiên hóa lỏng (LNG) cho châu Âu với giá cao.

Không còn lựa chọn nào khác, châu Âu đang bắt đầu xây dựng các bến cảng lớn để tiếp nhận hàng từ Mỹ. Thế nhưng, sau đó, Mỹ tuyên bố đình chỉ các dự án LNG và sẽ không cung cấp cho châu Âu trong những năm tới.

Tổng thống Mỹ Joe Biden ngày 26/1 công bố lệnh tạm dừng xây dựng các kho cảng xuất khẩu LNG mới. Theo dữ liệu do tổ chức quốc tế Cedigaz công bố, trong năm 2023, Mỹ là nước xuất khẩu LNG hàng đầu thế giới. JERUSALEM (AP) — The U.N. world court on Friday came down hard on Israel’s war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip, calling on Israel to “take all measures” to prevent a genocide of the Palestinians. But it stopped short of demanding an immediate cease-fire, as the South African sponsors of the case had hoped.

All sides tried to claim victory with the ruling, seizing on different elements that buttressed their positions.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) 17-judge panel issued six emergency measures ordering Israel to “take all measures within its power” to prevent acts which could fall foul of the Genocide Convention.

Here’s a summary of the measures Israel must take according to the court’s preliminary ruling:

• Prevent commission of acts that kill or cause serious bodily or mental harm to Palestinians. The acts are specified within Article Two of the genocide convention.
• Ensure that its military does not commit any of the aforementioned acts
• Prevent and punish any direct and public incitement to commit genocide
• Enable provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza
• Prevent destruction of any evidence related to allegations of acts of genocide
• Submit a report to the court on all measures taken to adhere to these orders

Maldives là quốc đảo nhỏ ở khu vực Nam Á, vốn phụ thuộc đáng kể vào nước láng giềng Ấn Độ về nguồn cung lương thực, xây dựng hạ tầng và công nghệ. Tuy nhiên mối quan hệ này gần đây xuất hiện dấu hiệu căng thẳng.

Trong khi đó, trong chuyến thăm Trung Quốc hồi tuần trước của Tổng thống Maldives, hai bên nhất trí nâng cấp lên “quan hệ đối tác hợp tác chiến lược toàn diện”. Các nhà phân tích cho rằng động thái của Maldives phản ánh phần nào sự chuyển hướng chính sách của một số quốc gia ở Nam Á trước cuộc cạnh tranh ảnh hưởng giữa các nước lớn.

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — Barely two weeks after he was released from prison in 1990, Nelson Mandela flew to Zambia to meet with African leaders who had supported his fight against South Africa’s apartheid system of forced racial segregation.

One figure stood out among the men in dark suits eagerly waiting to greet Mandela on the airport tarmac: Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, wearing his black and white checkered keffiyeh headdress, had traveled to see the newly freed Mandela.

Anxiety mounts every day that a full-scale Middle East war could erupt from the flames of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

“We feel and we’re afraid of it,” Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour this week. “We don’t want any escalation in the war. … We don’t like a regional war because it’s dangerous to everybody. Dangerous to Lebanon, dangerous to Israel and to the countries surrounding Israel,” he said, adding, “A regional war is bad for everybody.”
