EF – The redeployment of a Chinese oil rig in the South China Sea (SCS) shows an inconsistency in the rhetoric and practice of China’s policy in the disputed waters. Together with its mass land reclamation activities, these actions are part and parcel of coercive diplomacy. It affirms China’s territorial ambition in the highly strategic sea. But is it likely to escalate into regional conflict?

HCM CITY (VNS) — Farmers and households have been left without fresh water in many areas in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta this year because of severe saline intrusion.

Solar energy has, for the first time, made its way to the remote northwestern region of Vietnam and been effectively harnessed to benefit the local tea making and ‘tea tourism’ sectors.

After Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and the central city of Da Nang, solar power is now available in Lao Cai Province, home to the popular Sa Pa resort town, and considered the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source. HA NOI (VNS) — Nearly 178,000 persons with bachelor’s and masters’ degrees could not find jobs in the first quarter this year, the statistics released recently by the Labour and Social Sciences Institute said.

Vietnam is seeking to attract investment to develop its transport infrastructure, but it is not an easy task since local companies have limited finances while foreign ones are not interested in the business.

Le Thanh Tao was too afraid in the past to talk with foreigners though he has been learning English at school for years.

“I could not pronounce correctly,” the student of the Ho Chi Minh City Technology College says.

The World Health Organization Tuesday launched the “First Embrace” campaign with simple steps to save newborns and prevent complications arising from unsafe and outdated neonatal practices in Vietnam.

The campaign highlights early essential newborn care, including actions and interventions to address the most common causes of newborn death and disease, such as prematurity, low birth weight and severe illnesses like pneumonia and diarrhea. Vingroup, one of the leading Vietnamese property developers, on July 2 announced that foreigners and overseas Vietnamese registered to buy 112 apartments at its high-end condo project Vinhomes Central Park in Ho Chi Minh City within two hours.

The bids were placed at two separate launch ceremonies for the project in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the two biggest cities in Vietnam, on July 1, four days after the realty group informed the public of the events.
