The latest news is that 500 thousand students have failed to make it into university. Here is the piece:
Nửa triệu thí sinh đã trượt đại học
Sáng nay, sau hơn 2 giờ tranh luận, Bộ Giáo dục Đào tạo đã công bố điểm sàn đại học khối A và D là 13, khối B và C là 14. Khoảng nửa triệu thí sinh dưới điểm sàn và phải tìm kiếm cơ hội ở các bậc học khác.
Đây là mức sàn đối với học sinh phổ thông khu vực 3, chưa tính điểm ưu tiên khu vực và đối tượng. Khu vực kế tiếp được giảm 0,5 điểm, đối tượng kế tiếp được giảm 1 điểm. Theo quy định, nếu dưới sàn, thí sinh chính thức trượt đại học, không được tham gia xét tuyển nguyện vọng 2, 3 vào các trường đại học.

Ngay sau khi Bộ Giáo dục công bố mức sàn, nhiều trường đại học đã bắt đầu công bố điểm trúng tuyển.
Số thí sinh trên điểm sàn (chưa tính ưu tiên khu vực, đối tượng) của khối A là hơn 210.000, khối B hơn 97.000, khối C hơn 44.000 , khối D gần 53.000. Các thí sinh trên mức sàn chưa chắc chắn trúng tuyển bởi phải đợi điểm chuẩn của các trường dự thi.
Năm nay, cả nước có khoảng 1,2 triệu lượt thí sinh dự thi đại học và hơn 300.000 thí sinh dự thi cao đẳng. Số chỉ tiêu đại học khối A là hơn 143.000, khối B hơn 28.000, khối C hơn 22.000, khối D hơn 44.000 và các khối khác hơn 14.000.
Năm 2008, điểm sàn đại học khối A, D là 13, khối C là 14 và khối B là 15.

Just so you know how I feel. I am hurt if one student is denied college opportunity. For 500 thousands denials, my pain increases 500 thousand times. This hurts me tremendously.
If we don’t feel pain about this and see it as normal, then this injustice will last for many more years.

Dear anh Hoành and brothers and sisters,
I failed my university entrance exam for the first time. Though my score was high enough to win for the second choose, I didn’t attend any college because I didn’t know what I want.
After thinking for a year, I also didn’t know what I want. After learning at a college for 5 years, I also didn’t know what I want. After coming out a college for several years, I also didn’t know what I want. (Now I know what I want.)
Anh Hoành, you’re right – “…most of us, oftentimes, do not know what we want. Many students have to change majors or schools several times before settling on something they really like. That is life. Not everyone has the luck of knowing exactly what would make him/her happy. Many of us have to search for years and years.”
So I hope all students can attend college. No one is denied college opportunity. College is for all.

Hi An Nhơn, you’re right. But most of us, oftentimes, do not know what we want. Many students have to change majors or schools several times before settling on something they really like. That is life. Not everyone has the luck of knowing exactly what would make him/her happy. Many of us have to search for years and years. 🙂

The University entrance exam is just an exam. The Universities could chose students who have enough knowledge by this exam. So if the students don’t have enough undrstanding, they will fail. The problem of our education system is that what the students are taught in schools. We often say: “The University entrance is not the only way leading to success” but most of students don’t know what are the other ways that they fit out of the Universities entrance way. They don’t know what they are good at, what they like to do. If a student knows what he is good at, what he likes to do and has basic knowledge and good study skill, he will try to be excellent in the major or work he follows by reading, searching,….
Therefore high school should teach students some basic knowledge, skill of study and working, self understanding and give them orientation. I think our students study a lot of advance knowledge that is not necessary, and they lack many skill

Thank you for your sharing.
I agree with your concern, we must cancel the uni entrance exam ASAP. However, we still have to keep the national high school final exam, as I stated before.
