Vietnamese men remain patriarchal, smoke and drink a lot, and feel pressured in life, a study by the Institute for Social Development Studies in Hanoi has found.
According to the study, which surveyed 2,567 men aged 18-64 from four representative geographical regions for two years, to be a “true man” in Vietnam still revolves around conservative values such as prioritizing work and career, being able to feed one’s wife and kids as the family’s breadwinner and “pillar”, daring to take risks and challenges, and being physically strong and possess sexual ability.

Hong Kong (CNN) – Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on troops to “put all (their) minds and energy on preparing for war” in a visit to a military base in the southern province of Guangdong on Tuesday, according to state news agency Xinhua.
During an inspection of the People’s Liberation Army Marine Corps in Chaozhou City, Xinhua said Xi told the soldiers to “maintain a state of high alert” and called on them to be “absolutely loyal, absolutely pure, and absolutely reliable.”

The regulation aimed at preventing individuals from investing in real estate in foreign countries for the purpose of obtaining citizenship, according to the ministry.
Two are dead. One of the remaining four is 95 years old as the state compensates six people for suffering wrongful imprisonment 41 years ago.
The six people were given a compensation of VND1 billion ($43,192) each on Monday, nearly a year after receiving a public apology from the People’s Procuracy of Tay Ninh, the public prosecuting agency in the southern province.
Vo Thi Thuong, 95, and five family members received the compensation for the physical and mental suffering they had to endure for their wrongful conviction and imprisonment, a stupendous 41 years after it happened.
