Monsanto Tribunal Judges Slam Monsanto over Violation of Human Rights

Today the five international judges for the Monsanto Tribunal presented their legal opinion, which include key conclusions, both on the conduct of Monsanto and on the need for important changes to international laws governing multinational corporations.

The judges conclude that Monsanto has engaged in practices that have impinged on the basic human right to a healthy environment, the right to food and the right to health. Additionally, Monsanto’s conduct has a negative impact on the right of scientists to freely conduct indispensable research.

Lê Tuyết HCM CITY – When municipal authorities issued a Decision No.18 in 2011 on granting preferential loans to landlords for building and upgrading houses to rent to workers, it was widely welcomed.

However, six years later, the number of landlords accessing this facility has been very limited, despite the fact that they provide 85 per cent of workers in the city with a place to live.

Four provinces in Việt Nam infected with bird flu

HÀ NỘI — Four provinces in Việt Nam have reported six outbreaks of bird flu, according to the Department of Animal Health.The provinces affected are Vĩnh Long, Đăk Lắk, Quảng Ninh and Thừa Thiên-Huế.

An outbreak was detected in the southern province of Vĩnh Long on Saturday at a household in Bình Tân District’s Mỹ Thuận Commune which affected 300 chicken.

Government paves the way for the development of sport betting businesses

Nearly 67,000 people in Vietnam fell victim to a multi-level marketing company, losing over VND2 trillion (US$88.4 million) in the fraudulent business scheme.

Officers from the Ministry of Public Security on Thursday announced the result of an investigation into fraud and property appropriation charges against Lien Ket Viet, a company specializing in network marketing.

Permanent measures sought to prevent fish deaths in Saigon’s iconic canal

Experts and authorities in Ho Chi Minh City are concerned over the mass fish deaths occurring in an iconic canal following unseasonal rains.

The phenomenon has been happening for years along the Nhieu Loc- Thi Nghe Canal, typically at the beginning of the annual rainy season, though unseasonal downpours earlier this month seem to have had the same fatal affect on the canal’s marine life.

Though the reason behind the phenomenon has already been determined, a variety of proposed solutions has failed to bring about a permanent fix.
