Cities like Haiphong in northern Vietnam have seen a recent boom in tech manufacturing.

The coastal port of Haiphong, Vietnam, used to be famous for aromatic noodle dishes and organized crime. Nowadays, it’s better known as a burgeoning industrial region, where electronics makers set up shop to escape the crowded south. Optimism abounds in a place like this. “We don’t just sell land, we sell the future,” Hoang Vinh Tuan, a manager at real estate developer Deep C Industrial Zones, told Rest of World.

Hong Kong CNN — 

World leaders are converging in Phnom Penh this weekend for the first in a series of international summits in Southeast Asia over the coming week, where divisions between major powers and conflict threaten to overshadow talks.

The first stop is the Cambodian capital where leaders from across the Indo-Pacific will meet alongside a summit of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) leaders, followed next week by a meeting of the Group of 20 (G20) leaders in Bali and of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Bangkok.

Hôm nay trên Foreign Policy có bài nói về sự sụp đổ chỉ trong một ngày của công ty tiền ảo FTX của cripto-wonderboy Sam Bankman-Fried. Đây chỉ là thêm một công ty sau một loạt công ty cripto sụp đổ hồi tháng 6, tháng 7.

Mình đã viết rất nhiều trong vòng 4, 5 năm nay là criptocurrency không đáng tin và hỗ trợ tội phạm chuyển tiền khắp thế giới, và các chính phủ cần phải cấm, hay ít nhất là quản lý nghiêm ngặt như quản lý hệ thống tiền giấy. Tiền ảo là tiền không có thật, nó chỉ là những con số. Khi gặp khủng khoảng, người ta thường “rút tiền” tức là đổi tiền ảo thành tiền thật để bỏ túi (như thiên hạ rút tiền ở ngân hàng); nhiều người rút tiền mà không có người thêm tiền thật vào, thì các công ty cripto không có tiền thật cho thiên hạ rút (kiểu như ngân hàng không đủ tiền mặt cho thiên hạ rút), thì công ty cripto sụp đổ. Bich Thao and her husband are still trying to get a son after seven years and five in vitro fertilization attempts despite knowing sex selection is illegal.

The couple, both 34 and from the northern Vinh Phuc Province, say they have been unlucky in that all five IVF attempts failed either to faulty embryos or a faulty Y (male) chromosome.

Thao married her husband in 2010 and their first child was a girl. With her husband being the oldest son, the expectation is that she, too, will produce a male heir.

Sau gần 10 năm, cuộc đua trong lĩnh vực phát triển và sản xuất chip bán dẫn của Trung Quốc đã thành bại ra sao, và con đường sắp tới sẽ thế nào, khi Tổng bí thư Tập Cận Bình lại vừa kêu gọi đất nước của ông “phải giành chiến thắng trong cuộc chiến công nghệ cốt lõi”?

Năm 2020, Trung Quốc chi 350 tỉ USD cho nhập khẩu chip bán dẫn, trong khi tiền nhập dầu mỏ chỉ có 200 tỉ USD, theo số liệu hải quan. 

Việc Trung Quốc, vốn cung cấp cho thế giới hầu như tất cả các mặt hàng từ lao động thủ công rẻ tiền cho đến cả các mặt hàng công nghệ cao, là nước nhập khẩu dầu mỏ và nhiên liệu lớn nhất thế giới không có gì lạ. 

Song phải chi nhập chip nhiều hơn mua dầu thì đáng chú ý, nhất là khi tính đến 2021 các chính sách chạy đua trong lĩnh vực phát triển và sản xuất chip của nước này đã đi được hơn 7 năm.

Hundreds of elephants, wildebeests, and zebras have died across Kenya amid the nation’s longest drought in decades.

“The Kenya Wildlife Service Rangers, Community Scouts, and Research Teams counted the deaths of 205 elephants, 512 wildebeests, 381 common zebras, 51 buffalos, 49 Grevy’s zebras, and 12 giraffes in the past nine months,” a report released Friday by the country’s Ministry of Tourism said.

Everybody needs somebody to love là bài hát do Bert Berns, Solomon Burke và Jerry Wexler viết. Ban đầu Solomon Burke thu âm bài này, Bert Berns sản xuất, tại Atlantic Records năm 1964 và phiên bản này được xếp hạng thứ 58.

Sau đó Wilson Pickett cover lại vào năm 1966 và phiên bản của anh (có nhắc Solomon Burke trong phần mở đầu) đã xếp hạng thứ 29 trong nhạc pop, và hạng 19 trong nhạc R&B vào đầu năm 1967. Nhóm The Rolling Stones và The Blues Brothers cũng cover thành những phiên bản đáng chú ý.

Bài hát (phiên bản của Solomon Burke) được xếp hạng thứ 436 trong danh sách 500 bài hát hay nhất mọi thời đại của tạp chí Rolling Stone.

Các vị thầy thường dạy nhiều điều rất giống nhau của đời sống tâm linh căn bản cho thế giới. Người lớ ngớ thì mới nghe qua hay đọc qua thì liền kết luận là các đường tư duy của các thầy – như là tư duy của Phật Thích Ca và Chúa Giêsu – khác nhau một trời một vực. Nhưng thực sự đó chỉ là khác nhau như tiếng Việt và tiếng Anh – hai người, một người chỉ biết tiếng Anh và người kia chỉ biết tiếng Việt, thì nói chuyện với nhau chẳng thể nào hiểu nhau được vì ngôn ngữ bất đồng. Khác nhau giữa lời Phật dạy và lời Chúa dạy, phần lớn cũng chỉ là ngôn ngữ bất đồng. Nếu hiểu thấu đáo thì hai trường phái giống nhau nhiều trong căn bản hơn là khác nhau. TTCT – Tổng nợ của khu vực tư nhân đang tăng cao và tiềm ẩn nhiều rủi ro nếu một cú sốc kinh tế bất chợt xuất hiện.

Tiền đồng mất giá kết hợp với lãi suất tăng mạnh có thể khiến doanh nghiệp tư nhân bị tổn thương. Những diễn tiến càng đáng lo ngại khi khối nợ của khu vực tư nhân ngày càng phình to trên cả phương diện tín dụng ngân hàng và trái phiếu doanh nghiệp.

Số liệu của Hãng FiinRatings cho thấy dư nợ trái phiếu doanh nghiệp tính đến thời điểm cuối tháng 9-2022 là hơn 1,3 triệu tỉ đồng (tương đương hơn 13% GDP năm 2021). 

Trong số đó, nếu loại bỏ các trái phiếu ngân hàng thì dư nợ trái phiếu của các doanh nghiệp phi ngân hàng là 908,8 ngàn tỉ đồng. Riêng các doanh nghiệp bất động sản phát hành khoảng 455 ngàn tỉ đồng. Quy mô trái phiếu như vậy chiếm khoảng 4% tổng dư nợ tín dụng toàn hệ thống ngân hàng.

EU warns of pesticide residues found in Vietnamese agricultural products

(VAN) The EU has warned that bitter leaves and some other agricultural products exported from Vietnam have exceeded the maximum residue level of many active ingredients and banned substances.

According to the Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authorities and Enquiry Point (SPS Vietnam Office), RASFF – Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed of the European Union (EU) has just sent a warning notice, stating that the product of frozen ground bitter leaves of An Van Co., Ltd. Thinh (Address: 60 Ly Thuong Kiet, Ward 1, Bao Loc City, Lam Dong Province) was found to have exceeded the maximum residue level (MRL) of many active ingredients and banned substances.

The Biden administration released America’s new National Security Strategy (NSS) on Oct. 12. For those who read such documents regularly, there were few surprises. Values were mentioned in the context of the United States’ position in the world and vis-a-vis perceived adversaries, such as Russia, Iran, and the People’s Republic of China, while the administration’s lines of effort were laid out in a typical ends, ways, and means format. There were also sections on each region of the world, where the strategies laid out a bit more context.
