American soldier, Vietnamese girl find lost love after 50 years

“I am excited and nervous,” said Lan, 67 years young. She was about to meet someone she’d loved 50 years ago.

It was almost 10 p.m. when she reached Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport with her family. September 12 was going to be a day to remember.

While the family members waited at the arrival gate, Lan insisted on standing at Pillar 12, the rendezvous for Lan and Ken Reesing, an American soldier she’d fallen in love with a lifetime ago.

Mekong Delta struggles to find freshwater as drought, salt intrusion continue

People in Ben Tre and Tien Giang provinces are relying on freshwater supplied by trucks since salt intrusion in rivers has made tap water unpotable.

In the Mekong Deltas Ben Tre Province, drought and salination have rendered channels and canals barren, while water supply has run out and tap water sources are salinized. Thousands are lacking freshwater and have to buy it at VND100,000-300,000 ($4.3-12.9) per cubic meter. Some individuals and businesses as of late have tried to alleviate the situation by providing people with freshwater sources free of charge.A chaland, which carries 1,200 cubic meters of freshwater, by a business in southern Binh Duong Province was transported to a park in Ben Tres Ward 7 to provide free freshwater to two reservoirs there from March 15 to March 16.

In Ben Tre, like much of the rest of the Mekong Delta, drought and saltwater have rendered rivers and canals barren or too salty. Thousands of people lack water as a result and have to buy it for VND100,000-300,000 ($4.26-12.78) per cubic meter. Hôm rồi mình gặp một cậu bé vô gia cư và không được đi học, mình thấy thương và muốn giúp bé được học hành tử tế.

Thói quen mới

Thật ra hồi trước mình cũng không để ý lắm, có biết việc rác thải nhựa không tốt, nhưng lúc đó nghĩ mình dùng ít, mà chung quanh ai cũng vậy, nên một mình cũng không thay đổi được gì nhiều.

Nghĩ thì nghĩ vậy, nhưng mình bắt đầu nhận thức hơn, thấy được thực ra không phải vậy. Mỗi sáng thứ 7 hàng tuần mình thường đi chợ mua những thức ăn chủ yếu cho cả tuần. Mỗi lần về mình đếm khoảng mười mấy bọc lớn nhỏ, có món đến những 2 cái bọc. Những bọc còn sạch mình sẽ để dùng lại, còn những cái quá dơ hoặc bị rách thì không sử dụng được nữa. HANOI (Reuters) – Vietnam will temporarily suspend visa-free travel for citizens of Japan, Belarus and Russia from Saturday as its health ministry reported nine more coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing total in the country to 85.

HCM CITY – All forests south of the Hậu River in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta have been facing the threat of fire since the middle of this month, and any fire would spread very quickly because of the heat and low humidity, local authorities have warned.

The region comprises An Giang, Bạc Liêu, Cà Mau, Kiên Giang, Sóc Trăng, and Hậu Giang provinces.

Pham Van Tan, a 31-year-old Vietnamese, was driving a truck loaded with about 20 tonnes of dragon fruit produced in Vietnam’s Da Nang. Once passing the customs checkpoints, the goods will soon be seen in the markets of cities such as Shanghai and Beijing.
