Today is National Vietnam Veterans Day

In 2012, President Barack Obama signed a presidential proclamation declaring March 29, 2012 Vietnam Veterans Day, and now each year on March 29 Vietnam vets are honored.

March 29 is also the day in 1973 that the final troops returned to the U.S. from Vietnam, marking the end of U.S. involvement in the war.

Look out: Rhinos ‘invading’ downtown Ho Chi Minh City

Walls along several streets of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City have been given a touch-up with graffiti and mural paintings featuring rhinos, as part of a campaign to protect the endangered animal.

The campaign, named Rhinos Street Art Painting Project, is run by the Center of Hands-on Actions and Networking for Growth and Environment (CHANGE) and is backed by the local Youth Union and WildAct Vietnam, a non-government conservation charity.

Overcoats made available for inappropriately dressed tourists in Nha Trang

Tourists dressed in shorts or sleeveless shirts can now borrow overcoats at popular tourist site Ponagar Cham Towers, an ancient place of worship in the south-central city of Nha Trang.

Situated on a knoll at the mouth of the Cai River, two kilometers north of Nha Trang, Ponagar Cham Towers is dedicated to the worship of Lady Po Nagar, widely believed to be the originator of the Cham people in southern Vietnam.

1. Nguyen Thi Lang, head of the biotechnology department of An Giang University, has been praised for her scientific research conducted in the last 25 years and achievements in creating 73 rice varieties. Thirty-one varieties have been recognized by MARD and put into production in Mekong Delta.

Young artists reimagine Saigon’s iconic food, drink

From a glass of iced coffee to a plate of broken rice served with grilled pork chops, the most iconic food and drinks in Ho Chi Minh City have become the subject for a group of young Vietnamese painters.

‘Saigon on the move’ is a project by members of Bui Fine Arts Center (Bui), an academy dedicated to the training of young artists, and which looks to depict Saigon youths’ favorite food and drinks in paintings.
