Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Jesus said, “[I] did not come to be served, but to serve.” (Matthew 20:28). This is true not only for Jesus, but for all of us.
To be served means focusing on “me” – that is chấp ngã (grasping onto “me”) in Buddhist terminology.
The Enlightened focus on serving others. That is a life of service.
The life of service exists in all cultures and is taught in all cultures.
Indeed, we all are living a life of service – whatever job we are doing, we are serving others. We just don’t realize it. Too many of us think about me, for me, by me. But, indeed, we are living a life of service already.
When we work, just remember that we are serving others, then our life of service is complete and meaningful.
That’s all.
With compassion,
Hoành
