Fernandez: Cuba is not ready to ‘sacrifice’ socialism

Leaders of the Americas prepare to gather in Los Angeles on June 6 for their ninth regional summit. But Washington has announced Cuba will be excluded, arguing the Caribbean nation does not meet the required democratic standards.
United States-Cuban relations have been hostile ever since Fidel Castro’s 1959 revolution. In 2016, President Obama visited the island, calling the occasion an “historic opportunity” to leave the Cold War behind.
But under President Trump, all opportunities were lost. And now, under President Biden, relations remain tense.
So, what is next for the two countries? Cuba’s deputy foreign minister, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, talks to Al Jazeera.

(CNN)A new group led by a prominent conservative lawyer has received $1.6 billion from one donor — the largest single contribution to a politically focused nonprofit that’s ever been made public, and a fortune that could be used to fuel right-wing interests.
The nonprofit, Marble Freedom Trust, received the contribution in the form of stock and then funneled more than $200 million to other conservative organizations last year, a tax form CNN obtained from the IRS shows.
Marble Freedom is led by Leonard Leo, the co-chairman of the conservative Federalist Society, who advised former President Donald Trump on his Supreme Court picks and runs a sprawling network of other right-wing nonprofits that don’t disclose their donors, which are often referred to as dark money groups.

Cho đến nay đã trải qua 31 năm nhưng quá trình cổ phần hóa vẫn chưa kết thúc và chưa hề có luật về cổ phần hóa. Nhiều đại biểu Quốc hội khóa XV trong đợt 1 kỳ họp thứ hai vừa kết thúc ngày 30-10-2021 cũng đã nhấn mạnh yêu cầu cổ phần hóa DNNN trong kế hoạch tái cơ cấu kinh tế đến năm 2025.
Quá trình cổ phần hóa phức tạp liên quan đến đất đai, sở hữu trí tuệ, biến động thị trường…, nhưng đến nay chỉ được điều chỉnh bằng các nghị định của Chính phủ.
Vai trò giám sát của Quốc hội và các cơ quan dân cử chưa được chế định và chưa phát huy đầy đủ, các tổ chức xã hội chưa được tham gia đóng góp ý kiến hay hỗ trợ, giám sát.
Lỗ hổng pháp luật này đã dẫn đến những vụ như cổ phần hóa khách sạn Phú Gia bên cạnh hồ Hoàn Kiếm hay Bánh tôm hồ Tây với giá rất thấp mà cho đến nay vẫn không biết cổ đông là ai, hay chuyển nhượng tài sản của Sabeco ở TP.HCM và AVG ở Bộ Thông tin và truyền thông gây thất thoát hàng ngàn tỉ đồng, khiến nhiều cán bộ cao cấp phải vào tù – những thiệt hại quá lớn cần được rút kinh nghiệm nghiêm túc.

Một nghịch lý là trong khi quá trình chuyển đổi sang cơ chế thị trường sau đổi mới, các biện pháp gian nan như bỏ trợ cấp giá, điều chỉnh tỉ giá, chấp nhận kinh tế tư nhân… đều được thực hiện quyết đoán, không có tư vấn quốc tế, thì quá trình cải cách, tái cơ cấu, cổ phần hóa DNNN lại diễn ra chậm, rất khó khăn, dù phải thực hiện để đáp ứng yêu cầu của các tổ chức quốc tế cho Việt Nam vay vốn hay hiệp định thương mại tự do mà Việt Nam tham gia.

Someone has been calling Huy repeatedly over the past month, saying he owed money with high interest that will balloon to tens of millions of dong (VND10 million= $427.26) if it is not paid back quickly. When he denied ever using the service, the caller brought out a screenshot of an apparent contract with accurate personal information like ID card numbers, phone numbers and email addresses, even relevant information on Huy’s family members.
“This is information I’ve shared with multiple services online when I signed up for various accounts, but I have never submitted them to any credit service,” Huy said.

Earlier this summer I wrote, here at the CFR web site, an article entitled “Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?” and a blog entry of the same title. There I argued that “the issues of oversight, governance, and bias at the two largest NGOs, which dominate the field globally, cannot be overlooked.” Those two organizations are Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. As I wrote,
In 2021, Human Rights Watch had $256 million in assets and revenue of $130 million. It employs more than 500 staff members in 105 locations globally and has an annual budget of $97 million. Amnesty International is even larger, raising $436 million in 2020 and spending $376 million.

Theo phân loại của WHO, công nghiệp dược VN mới ở gần cấp độ 3, tức có công nghiệp dược nội địa, có sản xuất thuốc generic (thuốc sao chép) và xuất khẩu một số dược phẩm.
Còn theo phân loại 5 mức phát triển của Tổ chức Phát triển công nghiệp Liên Hiệp Quốc (UNIDO), công nghiệp dược VN mới ở mức 3 – “công nghiệp dược nội địa sản xuất đa số thành phẩm từ nguyên liệu nhập”.
