Mother’s Love – Lòng Mẹ (VN’s national anthem on Mother)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

While writing thee tea talk “Do you love your mom?” I mentioned VN’s national anthem on Mother: Mother’s Love – Lòng Mẹ, by Y Vân. I had only several verses of the song in that tea talk, and no music clips, so not to cluster the tea talk with too many things.

For that reason, today I introduce Lòng Mẹ here in Nhạc Xanh instead, with my English translation of the Vietnamese lyrics.

After the witten lyrics are clips of performances by Hương Lan, Thanh Thúy, Như Quỳnh ft. Tường Nguyên, and Bùi Xuân with the monochord (đàn bầu).

Obviously, you can see I love this song.

    “Mother’s heart” is one of my favorite Vietnamese songs. It reminds me of my mom with her unconditional love and protection for my family members. I love her to the moon and back.

    A few days ago, I also attempted to translate some sentences of the song. I found it quite challenging. Your translation sounds more natural and smooth compared to mine.

    “Mother’s heart is as immense as the overflowing Pacific Ocean.
    Mother’s love is as fervent as a gentle and sweet stream.
    Mother’s words are as gentle as rustling afternoon rice fields.
    A lullaby sound on the porch and the moonset shining on a beloved mother’s shadow.”

    I’d like to ask you “are there any simple expressions in English for the word “dạt dào”?

    And what do we need to notice when translating a song or something from Vietnamese into English?
