Năm 2005, tôi được bổ nhiệm làm trưởng khoa trong bệnh viện lúc ngoài 40 tuổi.

Vị trí tôi giữ với đa số mọi người thường gần đến lúc nghỉ hưu mới được ngồi vào. Vì thế tôi cảm động lắm, lúc nào cũng sục sôi muốn đóng góp xây dựng bệnh viện.

Thời gian ấy, xã hội đang sôi nổi khí thế đổi mới nền kinh tế. Ngành y bao năm bị mang tiếng trì trệ, lương thấp, lạc hậu… cũng muốn hòa vào trào lưu đổi mới đó.

Ngành y tế TP HCM lúc bấy giờ có đề án cổ phần hóa Bệnh viện Bình Dân. Dư luận rất quan tâm. Giới y chúng tôi bàn tán sôi nổi. Nhiều người mong có luồng gió mới mẻ xua tan những trì trệ trong ngành.

The increasingly dominant view in the energy expert community is that nuclear power has a role to play in achieving the 17 “sustainable devaelopment goals” identified by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 (and intended to be reached by 2030). There has thus been rising interest in nuclear power development in several parts of the world, especially in the Indo-Pacific, where growth is the strongest.

This renewed interest comes not long after the failed “nuclear renaissance” of the 2000s. That renaissance never materialized primarily because the devastating accidents at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in 2011 led many countries to reconsider their nuclear power ambitions. Now, however, national energy and climate objectives are again driving these same countries to put the nuclear option back on the table. This interest has only grown in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the subsequent efforts to choke off Russian natural gas and oil exports, and the resulting increase in global prices for fossil fuels. “Dẫn mình về nhà, đường quê ơi” là bài hát về bang West Virginia, Mỹ, được Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert và John Denver sáng tác năm 1971. Tháng 3-2014, bài hát trở thành 1 trong 4 bài bang ca chính thức của bang. (Bang ca là bài hát chính thức của tiểu bang được dùng khi có nghỉ lễ trọng thể.)

Vấn đề luyện tâm thường rất khó khăn cho đại đa số người trên thế giới, không phải vì bản chất luyện tâm khó, mà vì cả thế giới đã dạy nhau hàng bao nhiên niên đại tư duy và sống tham sân si, ngã mạn (tự cao), dối trá, đấu đá, giành giật, chiến tranh. Chúng ta đã được dạy và học như thế từ tấm bé, và mọi thứ đã thành thói quen sống. Thói quen rất khó để thay đổi, chỉ cần có thói quen uống cà phê mỗi sáng là ta sẽ thấy ngay bỏ thói quen đó khó thế nào, đừng nói là tất cả mọi thói quen tham sân si ta đã có cả đời. Một em bé sinh ra và chỉ được dạy khiêm tốn, thành thật, yêu người, tĩnh lặng mà thôi, thì sẽ học mọi điều này rất dễ dàng vì chẳng có thói quen tham sân si nào cản trở. In India, Hindu nationalists are promoting the conspiracy that Muslim men are tricking Hindu women into marriage and converting them in an attempt to create an Islamic republic.

The national government has found no evidence to support this claim, but laws have been passed in some of India’s largest states that could see Muslim men jailed for up to 10 years for committing this so-called “Love Jihad”.

This documentary follows a group training to protect Hindu girls, a teenage Muslim boy who says he was imprisoned without trial for talking to a Hindu girl, and interfaith couples fighting just to be together.

Thập niên 1960s là thập niên nhiều biến động chính trị ở Mỹ, với phong trào tranh đấu cho dân quyền cho người da đen với các lãnh đạo như mục sư Martin Luther King, và phong trào chống chiến tranh Việt Nam, với hầu hết các giới văn hóa nghệ sĩ.

Bản nhạc “Redemption Song” (Bài ca chuộc tội) của Bob Marley sinh ra trong khung cảnh lịch sử đó. Và cho đến ngày nay được xem là bài hát chính trị số 1 của mọi thời đại.

Lời hát này rất sâu đậm trong lòng dân Mỹ, vì có là lời sẽ trong Thánh kinh, rất quen thuộc với mỗi người dân Mỹ. Và trong khung cảnh giới văn nghệ sĩ và đa số dân Mỹ cảm thấy xã hội có nhiều bạo lực và áp bức của thời 1960s, những lời Thánh kinh quen thuộc đánh động tâm thức Mỹ rất mạnh:

Tâm làm chủ nghĩa là điều bạn có trong lòng bạn sẽ làm chủ tư duy, hành động và cuộc đời bạn. Điều này nói lên sức mạnh của tư tưởng, cũng như cụm từ “mind over matter” ở Tây phương.

Điều trong lòng bạn nghĩa là “tư duy, tư tưởng, cảm xúc” (tạm gọi chung là “tư duy”) trong lòng bạn. Chúng ta đang nói về điều vô hình vô ảnh bên trong tâm bạn, và không nói đến những gì cụ thể thấy được bên ngoài. Những hành động bên ngoài của bạn chỉ là thể hiện ý muốn của tư duy bạn, không phải là chủ, hơn nữa hành động chỉ là hành động, không nói lên được tư tưởng thầm kín của bạn bên trong. TTCT – Một dự báo đưa ra con số 70.000 giáo viên có thể bị dư thừa đến năm 2020. Cầu giảm làm giáo viên dư thừa. Thế nhưng ngành sư phạm có biết điều chỉnh để giảm cung không? Không hề.

 Chúng ta hãy thử dùng cách thu hẹp thế giới lại để dễ hình dung: Một thị trấn nhỏ có chừng ba chục bác sĩ và mỗi năm cần đào tạo thêm một bác sĩ để thay thế người về hưu. Bỗng dưng dân số thị trấn giảm mạnh vì nhiều người dọn đi nơi khác sinh sống, trong ba chục bác sĩ có cả chục người không có bệnh nhân.

Rồi trường đại học vùng đó thay vì đào tạo một bác sĩ lại ồ ạt tuyển sinh đào tạo chừng chục bác sĩ mỗi năm. Rất dễ hình dung trước đây trường thoải mái chọn em học sinh tốt nghiệp 30 điểm vào để đào tạo, nay hạ điểm chuẩn còn 10 điểm cũng không tìm đủ người chịu vào học.

Ai bỏ công học suốt chừng ấy năm nếu biết chắc ra trường họ sẽ không thể hành nghề bác sĩ vì thị trấn không có nhu cầu?

Leaders of the Americas prepare to gather in Los Angeles on June 6 for their ninth regional summit. But Washington has announced Cuba will be excluded, arguing the Caribbean nation does not meet the required democratic standards.

United States-Cuban relations have been hostile ever since Fidel Castro’s 1959 revolution. In 2016, President Obama visited the island, calling the occasion an “historic opportunity” to leave the Cold War behind.

But under President Trump, all opportunities were lost. And now, under President Biden, relations remain tense.

So, what is next for the two countries? Cuba’s deputy foreign minister, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, talks to Al Jazeera.

Massive dark money windfall: New conservative group got $1.6 billion from single donor

(CNN)A new group led by a prominent conservative lawyer has received $1.6 billion from one donor — the largest single contribution to a politically focused nonprofit that’s ever been made public, and a fortune that could be used to fuel right-wing interests.

The nonprofit, Marble Freedom Trust, received the contribution in the form of stock and then funneled more than $200 million to other conservative organizations last year, a tax form CNN obtained from the IRS shows.

Marble Freedom is led by Leonard Leo, the co-chairman of the conservative Federalist Society, who advised former President Donald Trump on his Supreme Court picks and runs a sprawling network of other right-wing nonprofits that don’t disclose their donors, which are often referred to as dark money groups.
