Law on wildlife crimes takes effect, but enforcement still weak

Criminals can be sentenced up to 15 years in prison

Criminals can be sentenced up to 15 years in prison and a pecuniary penalty of up to VND15 billion.

The first Criminal Code in 1985 only mentioned crimes related to forest management and protection and the illegally poaching of birds and animals. The maximum penalty stipulated in the law was three years imprisonment.

​Vietnam’s catfish on verge of losing US market over steep anti-dumping duties

The U.S. Department of Commerce (USDOC) has slapped record high anti-dumping duties on catfish imports from Vietnamese companies, raising concerns that the Southeast Asian market will eventually fail to continue selling to this important market.

The steep tax rates were announced as the final ruling of the investigation by the USDOC into Vietnamese catfish imports, believed to affect local manufacturers in the U.S.

Cambodia ‘shocked’ by ‘disrespectful’ U.S. aid cut, says democracy intact

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) – Cambodia said on Wednesday it was saddened and shocked by a “disrespectful” U.S. decision to rein back aid programmes because of perceived democratic setbacks and defended its record on democracy.
