Dear Everyone,
Today anh Hong Phuc posted a cute and fun poem about The Baby Elephant. Anyone like to translate it into English?
Have fun!

Chú voi con
Bản Đôn có chú voi con
Chiếc vòi ve vẩy lon ton đón chào.
Cả ngày chạy nhảy lao xao
Người ơi! Hãy đến gởi trao tâm tình.

Cầu tre lắt lẻo xinh xinh
Thiên nhiên hùng vỹ hữu tình xứ Tây.
Hương rừng bát ngát cỏ cây
Suối reo ,chim hót nơi đây thiên đường

Đến rồi lòng mãi vấn vương
Voi con xứ sở quê hương núi rừng.

I’d like to introduce my version for Hong Phuc’s good Vietnamese poem. Hihi, would you mind making my poem perfect, chú Hoành?
Thank in advance, my Sư Phụ ^^
THE BABY ELEPHANT
Ban Don has a baby elephant
Waggling its trunk to welcome nimbly
Running out with joy all the day
Oh man! Come share your feelings with me!
Unsteadily, lovely bamboo bridges
Magnificent and picturesque natures of the West
Jungles’ flavor stained with grass
Streams shouting, birds singing, here’s Heaven!
After arrival, the heart’s still attached
With the baby elephant of the jungly homeland.

Hi anh Hồng Phúc and Jun,
Thanks Jun for the work.
Instead of editing Jun’s work, I’ve tried to work a little harder, to write an English poem, as a gift to anh Hong Phuc.
Actually, I love baby elephants. They are so cute. So that gives me the motivation to translate this into an English poem.
So here it is, anh Hong Phuc and Jun, a nine-syllable poem (each line has the sounds of 9 syllables as you read it out loud).
Jun, I think you will see all the points and techniques as you read it. Only two explanations here:
1. Elephants move or swing their trunk, but don’t “waggle” it. 🙂
2. In the last line, I intentionally break the word “highland” (cao nguyen) into two separate words “high land” to give it additional meaning and feeling.
THE BABY ELEPHANT
Ban Don has a baby elephant
He trots round swinging his trunk greeting
All day long he runs and hops with joy
Friends, come and share with him your feeling
***
Lovely rickety bamboo bridges
Vista of the West magnificent
The jungle fragrance of trees and grass
Chanting streams, singing birds, here’s heaven.
***
Having come here, I become attached
To the elephant and this high land.
