Our jails are full of sinners.

RENEW project handles 590 explosive devices in Quang Tri

Quang Tri (VNA) – A team of the “Restoring the Environment and Neutralising the Effects of the War” (RENEW) project said it safely moved 590 explosive devices from a construction site in the central province of Quang Tri.
The mission took place from October 10-11, right after the team received a report on explosive devices from workers, who were building a guest house of Quang Tri town’s military high command at a location near the southern bank of Thach Han river.

Vietnam is located on the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia. The country’s total length is 1,650 kilometers from the northernmost point to the southernmost point. Vietnam has a diverse topography consisting of hills, mountains, deltas, coastline, and continental shelf. The topography is lower from the Northwest to the Southeast. There are two major deltas with fertile arable land in Vietnam; the 16,700 sq km Red River Delta, locally known as the Northern Delta, and the 40,000 sq km Mekong River Delta, or the Southern Delta. The country has a long coastline of 3,260 km, running from Mong Cai in the North to Ha Tien in the Southwest.

The peddler girl from Sa Pa who made it big

She was named by Forbes Vietnam as one of the 30 most influential under-thirty in the country.
Tan Thi Shu was born in 1986 in a poor H’Mong family in Sa Pa, a beautiful mountainous town in the northern province of Lao Cai.
Her family was in fact so poor it could only afford one meal a day. She started working at the age of 12, selling brocade fabric. A year later, like most of her peers, she became a peddler in Sa Pa.
Her mind was always teeming with unanswered questions: “Why are my parents so poor? Why am I different from the rest? Why can’t I go to school and have the same opportunities as others? Wherever I go, I can’t find anyone else who looks like me…”.

Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Srey Phirum Khun, 45, used to spend 8 hours travelling from Cambodia’s Kampong Speu Province to HCM City in Việt Nam for health checkups and treatment. Today, she no longer faces the grueling journey thanks to the inauguration of the Chợ Rẫy Phnom Penh Hospital in January 2014.
“I no longer have to travel abroad for treatment. It helps save my money and time,” she said with a smile.
Khun was just one of many who have benefited from the joint cooperation between Việt Nam and Cambodia in the medical sector.

Five Southeast Asian leaders joined Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the State Guest House in Tokyo on Oct. 9 to adopt an agreement to strengthen ties between their nations and Japan.
The agreement, titled “Tokyo Strategy 2018,” was adopted by Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as Japan, at the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting.
