As the coronavirus pandemic rages in wealthy European countries, more than 10,000 kilometers (6,000 miles) from China where the outbreak began, Vietnam has widely been spared.

The Hanoitimes – Rice exporters that have completed filling out customs declaration forms before March 24 could still go ahead as usual.
The General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) has requested local customs authorities to stop export clearance process for rice from March 24, local media reported.

TTO – Kể từ khi được chuyển đổi thành bệnh viện chuyên điều trị COVID-19, mã “Team 700” nhiều lần vang lên trong bệnh viện Elmhurst chỉ có hơn 500 giường bệnh. Đây là mã được loa phóng thanh phát đi khi có một bệnh nhân nào đó sắp qua đời.
Báo New York Times ngày 25-3 cho biết chỉ trong vài giờ của ngày 24-3, bác sĩ Ashley Bray đã phải làm cấp cứu cho 3 bệnh nhân bị ngưng tim tại bệnh viện Elmhurst. Tất cả 3 bệnh nhân, trong độ tuổi 80, 60 và 38, đều dương tính với virus corona chủng mới và đều qua đời sau đó.

NDO/VNA – Vietnam is now at the “golden stage” of COVID-19 prevention and control, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said on March 16. Speaking at a Hanoi meeting between permanent cabinet members and the national steering committee for COVID-19 prevention and control, the leader lauded ministries and agencies, especially the committee, for their efforts in the disease combat over the past two months.

Authorities in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) of Vietnam has ordered local entertainment facilities, including bars and clubs, to shut down starting from Saturday evening in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to a document issued by the People’s Committee in District 1, all forms of entertainment establishments including cinemas, massage parlors, bars, karaoke bars, discos, and beer clubs in the downtown district shall be suspended indefinitely from 6:00 pm on Saturday. Finance ministers and central bank governors from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will meet in Vietnam later this month after initially weighing a proposal to postpone the summit due to the coronavirus. Authorities in Vietnam, which holds the Asean chairmanship, have confirmed the summit will now go ahead as scheduled, the Asean Secretariat said Thursday.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had been weighing a proposal to postpone the meeting, set to take place over four days in Halong Bay, a beach city north of Hanoi, beginning March 24. Finance and central bank officials from across Southeast Asia, as well as Japan, South Korea and China, had been expected to attend.
Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which first appeared in China at the end of last year, now exceed 115,000 as of March 10 and are likely to climb significantly higher. While over two-thirds of the total confirmed cases are in mainland China, the vast majority of new cases reported since February 25 have occurred outside the country. What was initially seen as a largely China-centric shock is now understood to be a global crisis. The virus’s spread has regrettably borne out analysts’ downside scenarios, with investors digesting the implications of disrupted supply chains, official containment measures, and spillovers from the real economy to financial markets. A decision by two of the world’s largest energy producers to maintain current levels of production, despite falling energy prices, has further unnerved investors while questions about governments’ abilities to mount an effective and coordinated response linger.
