QUẢNG NAM — People in the central province of Quảng Nam are suffering from a severe water shortage due to extreme and prolonged hot weather and drought.
The 50m – long downstream section of the Đắk Mi River in Phước Sơn and Nam Giang districts has been dry for long and local people have to dig the riverbed for water, online newspaper vov.vn paper reported.

ĐỒNG NAI — Nearly 1,000 tonnes of fish have died since last Thursday on the La Ngà River in southern Đồng Nai Province, causing losses of billions of đồng to local fish farming households.
Ngô Tấn Tài, vice chairman of the Định Quán District’s People’s Committee, told Tuổi trẻ (Youth) newspaper that 81 fish farming households from La Ngà and Phú Ngọc communes had reported 977 tonnes of dead fish as of Monday.

The fence was built a week ago, starting from the southern bank of the river’s section in the province’s Lai Bang Village in Huong Tra District across the river. The fence occupies more than half of the river’s width.

- Soy, cattle, timber and other commodity producers fined for Amazon illegal deforestation in Brazil continue to sell their products to companies in China, the European Union and United States according to a new report. The document names 23 importing companies, including giants Bunge, Cargill and Northwest Hardwoods.
- Large international investment firms, such as BlackRock, also continue to pump money into Brazilian firms, despite their being fined for illegal Amazon forest loss by the Brazilian government, according to the report. Many Brazilian producers deny the accuracy of the Amazon Watch document.

The trash is dumped by local households and scrap from nearby construction sites.
This example is just a drop in the ocean compared to the 6,500 tonnes of solid waste dumped in Hanoi each day.
Dumping domestic waste on the streets is a common problem here.

Vietnam’s market for the cooling systems ranked as Asia’s eighth largest in 2011, excluding Japan and China, with about 660,000 units sold. But the country surpassed Thailand in 2015, and sales of 1.98 million units in 2016 lifted the nation into third behind India and Indonesia.

Elephant tusks are available in many places, from souvenir shops and jewelry shops to tourist sites. But the sales there are very small compared with transactions via online markets.
MT, at No 81-83 Nguyen Van Cu street, is a well known souvenir shop in Buon Ma Thuot City. There are many stalls inside, including a jewelry and souvenir stall which display products made of elephant tusks.
N, a salesman, showed many products, from bracelets, rings, pens, combs and a section of an elephant tail with black feathers. Each feather was priced at VND100,000.

HÀ NỘI — Seventeen bears – which used to be kept in captivity and illegally traded to harvest their bile – are living in a bear conservation centre in the northern province of Ninh Bình.
The centre was inaugurated by Four Paws, an international animal welfare organisation, in March 2019, in Kỳ Phú Commune, Nho Quan District.
