ĐÀ NẴNG — Four cities in Việt Nam – Huế, Đà Nẵng, Hội An and Đồng Hà – have agreed to enter World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF)’s One Planet City Challenge programme to show how cities can be a hub for creativity, ambition and innovation in dealing with climate change.

Vietnam imports tons of carbendazim, a carcinogen

A report from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released in September 2015 showed that Carbendazim is listed in the C group, substances which can cause cancer. In other countries, Carbendazim is prohibited as it is considered plant protection chemical which has latent high risks to the environment and human health.In 1992, research found that Carbendazim and its derivative Benomyl have had negative impact on those people who have contact with Benomyl (headache, diarrhea and sexual dysfunction) in Florida in the US.

Vietnam asks Google to remove 2,200 toxic YouTube videos

Vietnam’s broadcast watchdog has demanded that Google pull more than 2,200 videos with ‘toxic’ content from YouTube, a deputy chief official of the authority confirmed on Friday.

The Department of Broadcasting and Electronic Information under Vietnam’s information ministry said earlier this month that there are as many as 8,000 videos whose content is either fake or anti-government on Google-owned YouTube.

No delta region in the world is more threatened by climate change. Will Vietnam act in time to save it?

  • Scientists say the 1-meter sea level rise expected by century’s end will displace 3.5-5 million Mekong Delta residents. A 2-meter sea level rise could force three times that to higher ground.
  • Shifting rainfall and flooding patterns are also threatening one of the most highly productive agricultural environments in the world.
  • The onus is now on Vietnam’s government in Hanoi to approve a comprehensive adaptation and mitigation plan.

Vietnam detains two for anti-state propaganda

Vietnam has detained two men for posting anti-state comments.

Bui Hieu Vo, 55, and Phan Kim Khanh, 24, were detained for investigation of “propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam”, the government said on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

Remember this mural village in Vietnam? Its residents now offer homestay service

Residents of the central Vietnamese fishing village of Tam Thanh, which has gained popularity since a 2016 makeover that turned the entire locale into a giant canvas for mural paintings, are now running homestay service to host visitors.

The service is part of a community tourism project initiated by the administration of Tam Ky City, the capital of Quang Nam Province, where the village is located.

France and Japan support a “free and open maritime order” in the Asia-Pacific region, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said after talks with French President Francois Hollande on Monday.

The message seemed aimed at China, which claims almost all the South China Sea and which has fueled concern in Japan and the West with its growing military presence in the waterway.
