Eight months after Europe imposed sweeping new privacy rules, France has opened a new chapter in data protection — one of sanctions, fines and tough enforcement.

Not only has France’s CNIL data watchdog issued the largest ever financial penalty for a privacy breach in Europe — €50 million — it also chose the biggest possible target for enforcement — a Silicon Valley giant whose success was built on harvesting the personal data of millions to sell targeted ads.

The shortcut?

Dear brothers and sisters,

I have heard many times the Vietnamese expression of the modern day: “Đi tắt đón đầu” – Taking the shortcut to gain a head start. It sounds similar to a very common guerrilla warfare tactic: taking the shortcut to lie in wait upfront. My problem is that in business, more often than not, this expression appears to work in a contorted way into the unethical get-rich-quick minds of the crime-oriented individuals. Blessed are the poor in spirit

Dear brothers and sisters,

Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 5:3).

But what is “poor in spirit”?

Probably we may understand “poor in spirit” better by examining what “rich in spirit” is.

In most cultures of the world, from ancient times to the present day, “blessed” is synonymous to wealth, fame, glory, beauty, and all other worldly riches in general. People of such riches are generally considered, by themselves and by others, as blessed by God, rewarded by God, or reaping the benefits from their good efforts in the Bodhisattva Way in previous lives… “You are so blessed” usually means “You are so wealthy”, or “You have such fame!” or “All your children are big shots”… People of such “blessings” are “rich in spirit”, because they think they’ve got all the rewards of the world and all the Buddhas and God on their side. They feel “rich in spirit.” They feel they have got it all. Continue reading Blessed are the poor in spirit

Concentration

Dear brothers and sisters,

Concentration is a skill that can be acquired from practicing. Some people are born with it, but most people obtain it by practicing. And it is fairly easy to practice.

Before talking about practice, you may want to take note that your success in life depends heavily on your ability to concentrate your mind. If you mind is scattered all over the places, you know very well that you cannot achieve anything of substance. If you use all your day to daydream in classes, run around coffee shops, make calls to 12 friends to chat, go to the swimming pool for 20 minutes, read your homework assignments for a half hour while chatting at the same time, eat dinner, watch TV, and then go to bed. What have you accomplished in the day other than throwing a chunk of your precious time out of the window? Continue reading Concentration

The Biggest Mistakes In Songs We Love To Sing

TĐH: Some well known songs for you to see some grammatical mistakes. These mistakes are usually intentional, either to make the song stand out or to use popular incorrect English by most people. But sometimes the mistake is from the author’s ignorance.

Source: Dictionary.com

Songwriters provide the soundtracks to our lives and often have a knack for saying exactly what we were feeling but, of course, we didn’t know how to express ourselves.

But even their superior rhyming skills and penchant for translating the human condition into beautiful lyrics doesn’t mean they always say everything perfectly. Your favorite playlist is probably as full of simple spelling mistakes and hilarious grammatical errors as it is beloved hit songs. Continue reading The Biggest Mistakes In Songs We Love To Sing

The rhythm of the mind

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

“Rhythm of work” means when we are settled into daily work routines we are in a daily repetition of very much the same tasks in the same ways at the same hours. Likewise, the rhythm of the mind means the same ways we think every day about the same things, a daily repetition of what we call thinking. Nonetheless, it is not thinking. It really means sleeping, a mere repetition of formulas about things and activities that have been programmed into our nervous system to work like robots, no more no less.
