There is an area near my home where many Koreans live, but some Vietnamese open restaurants selling Vietnamese food there too. Last night, my friend and I went to eat pho there.
When the waiter, about 19, brought out our 2 bowls of pho, he held each bowl with his index fingers and thumbs of both hands, by the rim of the bowl – the two thumbs inside the rim, the two index fingers outside the rim, to lift the bowl from a tray, and put the bowl down on the table in front of us. JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israel-Hamas war has stretched on for half a year and become one of the most destructive, deadly, and intractable conflicts of the 21st century.
Since Hamas’ Oct. 7 cross-border attack, Israel has pummeled the Gaza Strip, displacing the vast majority of the population and causing many to flee to Gaza’s southernmost city, Rafah. Food is scarce, the U.N. says famine is approaching and few Palestinians have been able to leave the besieged territory.
Meanwhile, Hamas continues to fire rockets into Israel from Gaza, and Hezbollah and other militant groups do so from southern Lebanon, prompting tit-for-tat fighting that has displaced thousands of civilians on both sides of Israel’s borders. Hamas is still holding hostages taken during the Oct. 7 raid, as well as the bodies of some who died in captivity. And cease-fire talks stretch on with no end in sight.

Mùa dịch Covid năm 2022, có một lần mình đi xe bus từ quận 12 về quận 1. Lúc đó gần Tết, hai bên đường những chậu hoa vàng hoa đỏ trưng Tết được bày bán rất nhiều. Nhiều người đi xem hoa và nhiều người mua hoa. Đường xá vì thế mà đông đúc hơn và tấp nập hơn.
Chuyến xe ấy đông khách, gần như kín chỗ. Mọi người rôm rả nói chuyện sắp sửa Tết. Không khí ngoài đường và trong xe rộn ràng và phấn khởi sau nhiều tháng ngày Covid căng thắng. Continue reading Bên cửa sổ xe bus

Israel Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole (phát âm tiếng thổ dân Hawaii [kəˌmɐkəˌvivoˈʔole]), có nghĩa “Đôi mắt không sợ”, là ca sĩ béo phì người Hawaii, một tiểu bang hải đảo rất đẹp và là nơi du lịch và quay phim nổi tiếng của Mỹ. Kamakawiwoʻole bị bệnh béo phì cả đời, đã có lúc hơn 373 kg và do đó bị đủ thứ bệnh thường xuyên. Anh qua đời năm chỉ 37 tuổi (1997).
Dù cơ thể quá nặng, Kamakawiwoʻole có giọng ca rất nhẹ nhàng truyền cảm, luôn vui vẻ yêu đời, và luôn hát những bài ca vui tươi tích cực. Bài Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World là do Kamakawiwoʻole nối 2 bài hát đã nổi tiếng lại với nhau: Over the Rainbow và What a Wonderful World. A man who is writing a book on Taoism asks me to read his draft version and share my comments. I read and realize that this man has zero knowledge on Taoism. My God, a person has absolutely no knowledge about a subject is trying to publish a book about the subject. I point out his huge errors, but I don’t know how to tell him stop writing.
This case is not about someone who has low level of knowledge. He has zero knowledge, and he simply put his own weird ideas down, and plans to sell his book. Continue reading Teaching
