Dear brothers and sisters,

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
    and naked I will depart.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
    may the name of the Lord be praised.” (Job 1:21).

God gives us reputation and God takes away,
God gives us wealth and God takes away,
God gives us family and God takes away,
God gives us health and God takes away…

God can give us all things and God can take away all things. Nothing is ours. We are only earthly stewards for God. So:

Having reputation is not blessed. Losing reputation is not sorrowful.
Having wealth is not glad. Losing wealth is not depressed.
Having family is not happy. Losing family is not sad.
Having health is not joyful. Losing health is not pained.

Because naked we came from our mother’s womb,  and naked we will depart, when God gives us, thank God; when God takes away, thank God.
