Hàng không mẫu hạm USS Carl Vinson là chiến hạm đầu tiên của Mỹ tới Việt Nam kể từ khi chiến tranh kết thúc. Bộ Quốc phòng Mỹ cho biết có thể sẽ có một chiến hạm thứ hai tới Việt Nam trong năm nay.Hàng không mẫu hạm USS Carl Vinson là chiến hạm đầu tiên của Mỹ tới Việt Nam kể từ khi chiến tranh kết thúc. Bộ Quốc phòng Mỹ cho biết có thể sẽ có một chiến hạm thứ hai tới Việt Nam trong năm nay.

Mỹ có thể sẽ gửi hàng không mẫu hạm thứ hai đến Việt Nam trong năm nay và cam kết giúp Hà Nội bảo vệ chủ quyền quốc gia giữa lúc Trung Quốc không ngừng các hoạt động quân sự hóa trên vùng Biển Đông có tranh chấp.

Trợ lý Bộ trưởng Quốc phòng Mỹ phụ trách các vấn đề an ninh khu vực Ấn Độ Dương-Thái Bình Dương Randall Schriver cho biết như vậy hôm 3/4 tại cuộc thảo luận làm thế nào để Mỹ và Việt Nam có thể thúc đẩy các mối quan hệ an ninh và quốc phòng chặt chẽ hơn tại Trung tâm Nghiên cứu Chiến lược và Quốc tế (CSIS) ở Washinhton.

Without a map or knowing the route beforehand, a 13-year-old boy has cycled from Son La to Hanoi to visit his hospitalized brother.

Vi Quyet Chien of Van Ho District in Son La, a province in Vietnam’s northern mountains, returned home from school on Monday afternoon and learned from his grandfather that his two-month-old youngest brother was admitted in a hospital in Hanoi 175 kilometers (109 miles) away.

Several Vietnamese supermarkets have started using banana leaves to wrap vegetables in an effort to reduce plastic waste.

Shoppers at Lotte Mart in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 7 were recently surprised to see scallions, okra and other vegetables produce wrapped in banana leaves.

A representative of the supermarket chain said that the company is experimenting with using leaves to wrap veggies in one outlet, and plans to expand this later to the entire chain in the country.

Bayer has to pay out $81 million in damages to a man who claims the Roundup weedkiller caused his cancer, a jury ruled Wednesday. In a similar ruling last year, the sum was $289 million, reduced to $78 million on appeal. Since that first verdict, Bayer’s shares have lost 40% of their value—and there are still around 11,300 such cases waiting in the wings.

All of which begs the question: was it foolhardy for Bayer to buy Roundup maker Monsanto?

Viet Nam News THỪA THIÊN-HUẾ — Huế authorities have announced plans to evacuate 4,200 families out of the citadel walls and buildings in an attempt to stop illegal lodging on relics.

The People’s Council of Thừa Thiên-Huế Province early this week approved the evacuation plan designed by the local People’s Committee.

Following the approved plan, the evacuation of 4,200 families living illegally on relics built during the Nguyễn Dynasty (1802-1945) in the city will take place in two stages. The first starts this year and is expected to be complete in 2021, removing 2,938 families from on and around the citadel walls and relocating them.
