Finance ministers and central bank governors from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will meet in Vietnam later this month after initially weighing a proposal to postpone the summit due to the coronavirus. Authorities in Vietnam, which holds the Asean chairmanship, have confirmed the summit will now go ahead as scheduled, the Asean Secretariat said Thursday.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had been weighing a proposal to postpone the meeting, set to take place over four days in Halong Bay, a beach city north of Hanoi, beginning March 24. Finance and central bank officials from across Southeast Asia, as well as Japan, South Korea and China, had been expected to attend.

The Global Economic Impacts of COVID-19

Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which first appeared in China at the end of last year, now exceed 115,000 as of March 10 and are likely to climb significantly higher. While over two-thirds of the total confirmed cases are in mainland China, the vast majority of new cases reported since February 25 have occurred outside the country. What was initially seen as a largely China-centric shock is now understood to be a global crisis. The virus’s spread has regrettably borne out analysts’ downside scenarios, with investors digesting the implications of disrupted supply chains, official containment measures, and spillovers from the real economy to financial markets. A decision by two of the world’s largest energy producers to maintain current levels of production, despite falling energy prices, has further unnerved investors while questions about governments’ abilities to mount an effective and coordinated response linger. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, were down 22%, last trading at $35.45 per barrel. Bỗng nhiên hai sư cô reo lên, đưa tay chặn lại ngăn mình bước tiếp, cười khúc khích lượm mấy chú ốc sên đang bò trên đường : “chúng sinh, chúng sinh”. Malaysia, Vietnam and China have for weeks been locked in a quiet naval standoff in a disputed southwestern area of the sea, marking a new source of acrimony in ASEAN and Beijing’s latest bid to block Southeast Asian claimants from tapping the maritime area’s rich bounty of oil and gas.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Health just announced nine new cases of the novel coronavirus on Sunday afternoon (March 08, 2020).

All nine new cases are foreigners, who were on the same flight from London to Hanoi with the 17th case, 26-year-old Nguyen Hong Nhung, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus Friday after traveling to the three European countries last month.

Một ngày đặc biệt…

Viết lại, để biết đâu vài năm sau nữa, tình cờ ngồi đọc lại, có thể tủm tỉm cười, vì đã có những khoảnh khắc đáng nhớ đến vậy…

Được bảo: “Em ngồi xuống đó đi, suy nghĩ xem ca này như thế nào, và vẽ phác thảo đường rạch cho tôi xem, lát quay lại tôi hỏi”. Lần đầu tiên trong đời, ngồi ở vị trí mổ chính, dù chỉ có 5 phút, dưới ánh đèn vàng rộng, gương mặt đứa bé phía trước, rất gần, rất rõ, nằm yên chờ đợi, tự dưng thấy mọi thứ như ngừng lại ấy, thấy gần gũi, và thân thuộc. Tự nhiên lúc đó lại khẽ cầu nguyện trong đầu, vì nhớ có nhiều người từng dặn như thế, là trước mỗi bệnh nhân, hãy cầu nguyện, và cảm thấy tập trung hơn, giống như bài hát gì đấy “cả cuộc sống bỗng chốc thu bé lại, vừa bằng một… em bé” vậy. Tự dưng cái khoảnh khắc ấy, thấy lòng đầy biết ơn…

Những ngày dù rất mệt, nhưng không mỏi, cố gắng, và vui.
