Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The Golden Rule is considered as the most important rule for us to live by. However, there are two versions of the Golden Rule; they came about 500 years apart.
The first version is from Confucius:
“Do not do unto others what you would not want others to do unto you.”
The second version is from Jesus:
“In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” (Matthew 7:12)
The Confucius version tells us what not to do. So, we can sit there and do nothing.
The Jesus version tells us what to do. So, we may do hundreds of things for others.
The Confucius version is neutral. The Jesus version is positive.
Nonetheless, we can say both are two equal versions, like the two sides of a coin.
Wish we all remember the Golden Rule every minute of the day.
With compassion,
Hoành
