A lightning world

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In case you haven’t heard, our world is in serious trouble, the kind of trouble we have never had in our human history.

IT is moving extremely fast. What we are facing now is artificial intelligent (AI). And this is only one thing in a long series of stuff to come.

I am very sensitive about this, because at the beginning of IT revolution in the 1980’s I was an attorney for MCI Telecommunications, the most advanced telecommunications company in the world at that time.

With each new technology, we are going extremely fast, to the degree that we cannot brake on time. And no one can tell how fast the world will move in the future. When I was at MCI, all the executives of MCI said the same thing: “We cannot tell what will happen next year. Things are moving so fast.” And that was 40 years ago. The current speed is 10 times faster.

Two weeks ago, Israeli military killed 7 humanitarian workers of World Central Kitchen who were delivering foods to the starving Palestinians in Gaza. Israel admitted its mistake. Later the world was horrified to find that Israel military was using AI to identify targets.

That was stupidity beyond comprehension. You know that you never want to buy a new-born phone because it has a lot of bugs. You wait for a year or two, when they get most of the bugs out and the price comes down. Also your computer stops working very often; who know what the reason is. AI is very new and still a baby with so many unknown problems, but Israel is using it to identify targets and, therefore, kill a lot of good people. Israel is a cruel terrorist, never caring about who it kills. But I am not talking about Israel; I am talking about the fact that many many people are using AI recklessly to cheat people and make money. Also, people already talking about wars with only robotic soldiers. So, you may get robotic soldiers not only shooting at each other but also finding humans to kill. How scary that would be? Can you trust robots to determine war and peace for the human fate?

Entrust a bunch of machines with our fate. Wow, if you don’t entrust God with your fate, but you are ready to entrust a bunch of machines with your fate, man, something is seriously wrong with your head.

Brothers and Sisters, sciences are increasingly challenging human moral values. People invent new machines and new scientific methods but don’t think about what they can do to human values. Besides, each new machine or method is promoted heavily by immoral and sometimes illegal folks just to make money.

What can we do about it?

We need to raise our alarm on our Facebook and social forums. The world needs to slow down and consider human lives and human values before going to mass production.

And pray to God.

With compassion,

Hoành
