Vietnam – “Rise and Fall” toward a sustainable Mekong Delta

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Vietnam - "Rise and Fall" toward a sustainable Mekong Delta

Netherlandandyou.nl

Hanoi, 24 October 2019 – The Mekong Delta is one of the most vulnerable deltas to climate change, particularly sea level rise. However, the social and economic developments in the region also have a significant impact on the land. Urbanisation, land-use transformation, intensification of economic activities and human protection against natural disasters has led to the large-scale extraction of fresh groundwater, heavy loading of infrastructure, upstream dykes and dam construction as well as loss of habitat and biodiversity.

Mrs. BOT finds a way as villagers volunteer to pay

VNE – By Hoang Hanh   October 29, 2019 | 04:40 pm GMT+7

A 66-year-old widow collects very moderate toll fees for a one-km path she and her husband built on their own six years ago.

They call her Mrs. BOT, but as an endearment, not a derogatory epithet. The term, build-own-transfer, otherwise carries the connotation of many expensive toll fee stations along Vietnamese roads.

Mrs. BOT of the southernmost province of Ca Mau is a total different story.

Prayer 681

The prayer series

Jesus,

Look!
The news is that VN is worrying because of low fertility rate.

Oh my God! Why worry?

Too many ethnic minority children
who don’t have enough to eat, wear and learn.

If we take care of them,
though we have low fertility rate,
we would still have enough intellectuals for our country.

Why worry about the size of the population?
We should focus on the quality of the population
and our ethnic minority brothers and sisters.
Right, Jesus?

Amen.

Last week, the Nobel Prize in chemistry was awarded to John Goodenough, Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino for their work developing the lithium-ion battery. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, in announcing the award, said the three men “created a rechargeable world.” The ubiquitous battery is now found in items as varied as hearing aids and power grids. It is a testament not just to technological revolutions, but also to the power of advancements in performance and decreases in cost.
