International partners join Việt Nam to combat plastic pollution

Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Dozens of embassies and international organisations marked the World Environment Day (June 5) by signing a Code of Conduct on Combating Plastic Pollution.

The signatories include Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States of America as well as 16 UN agencies, funds, programmes, offices and World Bank.

Enrollment at the tertiary level has grown dramatically in Vietnam over the last decade, with the national gross enrollment ratio (college enrollment as a percentage of the total college-age population) rising from 10 percent in 2000 to 16 percent in 2005, and 25 percent last year, according to data from the UNESCO Institute of Statistics. However, the system faces a raft of challenges in responding to the employment needs of Vietnam’s growing economy, especially as it seeks to climb the value chain away from a focus on low-wage manufacturing towards modern industry and innovation.

It has disrupted mature industries, such as hotels and automotives, by providing consumers with convenient and cost efficient access to resources without the financial, emotional, or social burdens of ownership. But the sharing economy isn’t really a “sharing” economy at all; it’s an access economy.

The history of Vietnam-China relations is steeped in a thousand years of Chinese colonization, conflict, and rebellion. The last Chinese invasion was a two-month border war in 1979.

Over the last few days, Bac Giang Province, home to Luc Ngan District which is famous as the major lychee producing area in the country, has worn a decorated look.

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Achieves its First and Positive Credit Rating from Fitch Ratings

Hanoi, June 7, 2018: Vietnam’s electricity company Vietnam Electricity, or EVN, is one step closer to issuing US dollar bonds and strengthening its financing capacity, following an endorsement by Fitch Ratings of its credit profile.

Now assigned an Issuer Default Rating (IDR) of ‘BB’ with a ‘Stable Outlook’ for long-term foreign currency, EVN’s ratings align with Vietnam’s sovereign rating. EVN’s sustainable financing strategy is supported by technical assistance from the World Bank.
