(TNO) Ngày 1.5, Bộ Ngoại giao Mỹ bác bỏ gợi ý của Trung Quốc về việc cùng sử dụng các cơ sở trên các đảo nhân tạo do Trung Quốc xây trái phép ở quần đảo Trường Sa thuộc chủ quyền Việt Nam.

G7 Foreign Ministers’ Declaration on Maritime Security in Lübeck, 15 April 2015

    TĐH: This declaration of G7 is a very well coordinated global maritime strategy to deal with all issues related to maritime security of the world. And it contains the strength of a dominant group of naval powers of the world: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the European Union (which is very much the entire Europe, not just one country).

    In this long document East and South China Sea is the first item of concern. So we need to understand that China’s aggressive behavior has the benefit of bringing the world together to deal with China, with laws and naval powers. China will see its undoing eventually. The world will slowly squeeze China in so many ways, on so many fronts, one step at a time.

AMTI – Since 2014, China has attracted tremendous regional and international attention through its land reclamation activities in some features of the Spratlys which it controls, namely Gaven Reef, Cuarteron Reef, Johnson South Reef and Fiery Cross. While many have criticisms and concerns, China feels this reclamation is necessary in order to keep up with others in the Spratlys who have earlier occupied features in the disputed Spratlys and built up military and civil facilities since.

The Hoover Dam was and is a marvel of engineering, a 700-foot wall of concrete holding back the Colorado River. Its 17 massive power turbines supply electricity for southern California and a chunk of the U.S. Southwest. But in the space of a year, the Hoover power plant will have essentially shrunk in half, from about 2,100 megawatts of generation capacity in early 2014 to about 1,200 megawatts this spring, all because of the impacts of drought caused by climate change. Three years ago, on April 1, 2012, I had the great privilege to watch Burmese citizens take part in their first free election in a quarter of a century. As votes go, this was actually a pretty modest one — it was a mere by-election, so only a few seats in the national assembly were up for grabs. In practical terms, the voters’ choices had little real impact on the balance of forces in the country at large.

Yet that modest reality didn’t seem to matter. People seized the opportunity to exercise their rights with joy.

TTO – Nhiều nam thanh thiếu niên Việt Nam bị chở lậu sang Anh để trồng cần sa trong điều kiện tồi tệ như nô lệ. Họ bị cưỡng hiếp, đánh đập và bị ngược đãi.
