’2.5 million people affected’ by Pakistan floods officials say

Up to two-and-a-half million people have been affected by devastating floods in north-west Pakistan, the International Red Cross has said.

Rescuers are struggling to reach 27,000 people still cut off by the floods, which are the worst in 80 years.

At least 1,100 people have died and thousands have lost everything.

North Korea warns of nuclear ‘sacred war’

Thousands of personnel will be taking part in the naval exercises starting on Sunday

North Korea says it will use its “nuclear deterrent” in response to joint US-South Korean military exercises this weekend.

Pyongyang was ready to launch a “retaliatory sacred war” at any time, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

Washington and Seoul say the war games are to deter North Korean aggression.

Tàu nước ngoài cứu 10 ngư dân gặp bão ở Hoàng Sa

Tàu Jade Trader (quốc tịch Antigua&Barbuda) trên hải trình đến Hong Kong đã vớt được 10 ngư dân Quảng Ngãi bị chìm tàu trong bão số 1, đang trôi dạt cách Hoàng Sa hơn 90 hải lý (khoảng 100 km).
> Tính mạng 27 ngư dân mất tích ở Hoàng Sa treo lơ lửng

Đây là những ngư dân cùng đi trên tàu cá của thuyền trưởng Dương Thành, huyện đảo Lý Sơn. Trên tàu ông Thành có 11 ngư dân. Ngoài 10 người kịp bám vào các mảnh vỡ, thùng phao trên tàu và được cứu thoát, riêng ngư dân Nguyễn Văn Thọ đã mất tích.

Theo Ban chỉ huy phòng chống lụt bão tỉnh Quảng Ngãi, nhiều khả năng thuyền viên Thọ đã chết. 10 ngư dân trên tàu Jade Trader dự kiến chiều nay cập cảng Hong Kong.
