Giới chức Liên Hợp Quốc lên án hành động từ Israel lẫn Hamas dẫn đến thương vong dân thường nghiêm trọng trong cuộc giải cứu con tin ở Dải Gaza.
“Chúng tôi vô cùng sửng sốt trước tác động đến dân thường từ chiến dịch tại Nuseirat vào cuối tuần qua của các lực lượng Israel, trong nỗ lực giải cứu 4 con tin”, người phát ngôn Jeremy Laurence thuộc Văn phòng Nhân quyền Liên Hợp Quốc bình luận ngày 11/6.
Ông đồng thời nhấn mạnh Liên Hợp Quốc “lo ngại sâu sắc” khi các nhóm vũ trang trong khu vực tiếp tục giam nhiều con tin, trong đó hầu hết là dân thường.

Cuộc điều tra của Liên Hợp Quốc cho thấy cả Israel và Hamas đều phạm tội ác chiến tranh trong giai đoạn đầu nổ ra xung đột ở Dải Gaza.
Ủy ban Điều tra Liên Hợp Quốc (COI) ngày 12/6 công bố hai báo cáo song song, gồm cuộc điều tra về việc Hamas tấn công Israel ngày 7/10/2023 và chiến dịch quân sự đáp trả của Tel Aviv.
Các cuộc điều tra trình bày đánh giá về giai đoạn đầu xung đột tới tháng 12/2023, cho thấy cả Israel và Hamas đều phạm tội ác chiến tranh như tra tấn, giết người, xúc phạm nhân phẩm, đối xử vô nhân đạo. Israel bị kết luận phạm thêm tội ác gồm sử dụng nạn đói như một phương thức chiến tranh, chặn nguồn cung thiết yếu cho người dân Gaza.
“Số thương vong dân sự lớn ở Dải Gaza và việc phá hủy quy mô lớn các vật thể, cơ sở hạ tầng dân sự là kết quả của một chiến lược mang mục đích gây thiệt hại tối đa, bất chấp nguyên tắc phân biệt rõ mục tiêu, đáp trả tương ứng”, COI ra tuyên bố.

Here are four highlights from their conversation:
1.) The post-Cold War era is over. The United States no longer enjoys its unipolar moment. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and through the 2000s, the United States and the West made a series of misjudgments about where Russia and China were headed. They assumed that Russia and China would want to become more integrated into the U.S.-led world order. David acknowledged that Russian President Vladimir Putin stated explicitly in 2007 that he would do the contrary, while China’s ambitions were unclear initially. (CNN) — Charlie was 15 when his life inexplicably shrank to fit within the frame of his lower bunk bed in his family’s cramped Hong Kong apartment.
“I felt very depressed, confused, like I didn’t know what I wanted,” said Charlie, who’s now 19 and still learning how to navigate the world outside.
Charlie is among millions of hikikomori, a Japanese term for people who cut themselves off from society, sometimes for months or years – often Gen Z and Millennials in the prime of their youth.
The phenomenon first emerged in Asia, and is particularly well-documented in Japan – but similar stories are surfacing in other parts of the world including the United States, Spain and France.

Security Council Press Statement on Mass Graves in Gaza
The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Pedro Comissário Afonso (Mozambique):
The members of the Security Council expressed their deep concern over reports of the discovery of mass graves, in and around the Nasser and Al Shifa medical facilities in Gaza, where several hundred bodies, including women, children and older persons, were buried.
The members of the Security Council underlined the need for accountability for violations of international law and called for investigators to be allowed the unimpeded access to all locations of mass graves in Gaza to conduct immediate, independent, thorough, comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigations to establish the circumstances behind the graves.
The members of the Security Council reiterated their demand that all parties scrupulously comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law, in particular regarding the protection of civilians and civilian objects.
The members of the Security Council reaffirmed the importance of allowing families to know the fate and whereabouts of their missing relatives, consistent with international humanitarian law.
The members of the Security Council emphasized the imperative of all parties to immediately and fully implement resolutions 2728 (2024), 2720 (2023) and 2712 (2023).

A people take to arms and fight for democracy. A military terrorizes civilians with airstrikes and land mines. Tens of thousands are killed. Millions are displaced.
Yet it is all happening almost completely out of view.
Recently, I spent a week on the front lines of a forgotten war in the Southeast Asian nation of Myanmar. Since a military junta overthrew a civilian administration there three years ago, a head-spinning array of pro-democracy forces and ethnic militias have united to fight the generals. The resistance includes poets, doctors and lawyers who traded life in the cities for jungle warfare. It also includes veteran combatants who have known no occupation but soldier.
