HANOI: Britain and Vietnam on Friday (Dec 11) finalised a free trade agreement, the second deal London has reached in Southeast Asia in as many days while deadlock continues over post-Brexit European Union arrangements.

The deal with Vietnam comes into force Jan 1, 2021 and will be Britain’s third, following Thursday’s pact with Singapore and October’s first post-Brexit trade deal with Japan.

In September, the House passed a bill that would ban imports produced by Uighur forced laborers in Xinjiang. Companies such as Apple, Nike, and Coca-Cola have mounted a lobbying campaign against the bill, which passed the House by an overwhelming margin of four hundred and six to three, and is likely to pass the Senate. If the bill does become law, it will be the latest sign that the relationship between the United States and China is as contentious as it has been in decades. The Chinese Communist Party’s use of forced labor, its authoritarian activity in Hong Kong, and its obfuscation about the coronavirus have raised bipartisan concerns about the future of the relationship between the U.S. and China.

BEIJING: The European Union and the United States should work together to stand up to coercive Chinese diplomacy and coordinate with other countries in the region on the disputed South China Sea, the EU ambassador to China said on Thursday (Dec 10).

US President-elect Joe Biden, due to take office on Jan 20, has spoken of the need to revitalise alliances with like-minded democracies as a core source of strength in dealing with China.

Tuy nhiên, có nhiều phân tích cho rằng thiên tai tại Việt Nam hiên nay và những năm gần đây với tình hình ngày càng trầm trọng là do phá rừng và làm thủy điện.

Vào 13 giờ chiều 21/10, bão số 8 còn cách quần đảo Hoàng Sa khoảng 560 km về phía đông.

Đến 19 giờ ngày 23/10, tâm bão cách quần đảo Hoàng Sa khoảng 110km về phía Đông Bắc. Sức gió mạnh nhất vùng gần tâm bão mạnh cấp 11-12 (tức 100-135km/giờ), giật cấp 14.

Muốn biết rừng nguyên sinh phòng hộ bị tàn phá thế nào, chư vị cứ gõ: “Nạn phá  rừng” thì Goole đáp ứng ngay. Bài viết nầy tôi có dụng ý góp phần tranh luận về cây tạo nên “Rừng phòng hộ” và “Cây công nghiệp”.

Nhiều chuyên gia thế giới và trong nước nói về tính năng, tác dụng “Rừng phòng  hộ” khá phong phú. Bách khoa toàn thư mở (Wikipedia) rút gọn lại: “Rừng phòng  hộ được sử dung chủ yếu để bảo vệ nguồn nước, bảo vệ đất, chống xói mòn,  chống sa mạc hóa, điều hòa khí hậu, bảo vệ môi trường, môi sinh cho nhiều loại  động thực vật, hạn chế thiên tai, nơi thu hút khách nhàn du…”.

Việt Nam phân ra 2 loại rừng: “Rừng phòng hộ đầu nguồn”(vùng cao) và “Rừng  phòng hộ ven biển”(vùng thấp). Bài viết nầy tôi chỉ nói rừng phòng hộ đầu nguồn.

A big-data program in China’s Xinjiang “arbitrarily selects” Muslims for detention, flagging behaviour such as wearing a veil, studying the Quran or going on the Hajj pilgrimage as reasons for arrest, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).

In a new report on Wednesday, the rights group said it analysed a leaked list of more than 2,000 detainees in Xinjiang’s Aksu prefecture and found that the programme – known as the Integrated Joint Operations Platform (IJOP) – also flagged people for their relationships, their communications, their travel histories, or for being related to someone the authorities consider suspicious.

Không biết cây rừng – một loại sinh vật không biết nói, không biết than không biết khóc – ngoài cách phản ứng gián tiếp với con người bằng mặc kệ lũ lụt hoành hành, còn có cách nào nữa không, nhưng cầm chắc là có biết đi nữa chúng nó cũng không lường nổi “cái mốc đổi đời 1945” lại đưa cả bà con họ hàng chúng đến chỗ tuyệt diệt như hôm nay. Trong vài thập kỷ lại đây chúng đã chịu một cuộc “Cải cách rừng núi” long trời lở đất gấp vạn lần CCRĐ, mà hình như đến giờ này cũng đâu đã kết thúc.

Hoặc giả là chúng nó có biết đấy mà chỉ vì cũng giống cột đèn, chúng chẳng có chân để mà chạy. Chứ nếu mà cây cối cũng có chân thì sao nhỉ?

Thì chắc là nhà thơ Tố Hữu sẽ không bao giờ còn có dịp viết nổi câu thơ nổi tiếng này kể từ hồi kháng chiến chống Pháp:  “Rừng che bộ đội rừng vây quân thù”.

The CCP censors the internet and maintains intensive surveillance apparatus in the form of facial recognition technology and Global Positioning System (GPS) coordination in its occupied territories including Tibet, East Turkistan (Xinjiang), and Southern Mongolian (Inner Mongolia), reported The Taiwan Times.

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges that the world faces. A United Nations report has cautioned that greenhouse gas emissions due to human activity are at a record high, “with no signs of slowing down.” Many nations are recording weather extremes, higher average temperatures and rising seas. Meanwhile, the first wave of increasing numbers of climate refugees points to how a changing environment will reshape human life.

The changes in climate may have been caused by previous and current generations of adults, but it is the future generations that will have to deal with its worst effects. Today’s children will play a critical role in protecting the environment.

Confronting the crisis will require much change – and education is an urgent first step.
