Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I have studied and practiced personal development for 49 years, and I have become an expert on personal development. I can tell you that most teachers on personal development don’t even know that they cannot teach you to know yourself – you have to be your own teacher.
It’s not a coincidence that almost the entire world lives with greed, hatred, and ignorance (tham sân si). It is because almost the entire world is ignorant, from teachers to students.
If you don’t see this truth, may God and Buddha save you.
The big question is why you don’t see this simple truth?
The answer is simple: You don’t believe in yourself – you believe in things outside you, such as self-proclaimed teachers, priests, monks, nuns, gurus of all kinds. They may help a little bit here and there, but if you think they can liberate you from bondage or they tell you they can liberate you, then they have become big rocks stopping you on your path.
Your original heart – the Buddha nature in you, the Holy Spirit in you – is still in you, intact, pure, and wise.
Look at it, see it, and seize it, to live a sacred life.
“Point directly to your true heart, see your true nature, and become a Buddha.” (Trực chỉ chân tâm, kiến tánh thành Phật) (Hui Neng, the Sixth Zen Patriarch).
If you ask me: “How do I do that? How do I see my true heart? How do I see my true nature?” then my answer would be: “Obviously, your time has not come yet, brother. I cannot help you. You have to know yourself. If you don’t know you, I cannot help you know you. Only you can see yourself.”
Brothers and sisters, life is simple. You need to be ultra-simple and ultra-honest to see your original pure heart still intact in you – you are sacred. When you see your original pure heart, you see your true nature, the true nature of the human heart, and the true nature of the entire world.
You are your own teacher. Remember this cardinal truth.
You are your own teacher. Only you can teach you.
With compassion,
Hoành
