Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As people grow up, they learn all kinds of sins which, they tell each other, are the wisdom of the grown-ups. At one time or another, each of us has believed in such stupid “wisdom.”
But now we are wiser, we know that true growing up and true wisdom means the older we are the more honest, gentle, and loving we become. We know how to come back to our saintly and pure original nature. We understand that growing up means less greedy, hating, ignorant, and more honest, gentle, and loving.
We know that greed, hatred, and ignorance bring failure, and that honesty, gentleness, and loving bring success, however we define success and failure.
Let me tell you, brothers and sisters, the word that impresses me the most is the Buddhist word “ignorance.” If you look at the world and the way most people think and behave, you have to say these people are so ignorant – meaning, so stupid. And because so many people think and behave so stupidly, stupidity, for so many thousand years, has been considered standard living wisdom, for everyone to learn and practice.
Folks, the older you are, the more honest, gentle, and loving you should be. That is true growing and maturing.
Look at your grandparents – if they have become more honest, gentle, and loving as they age, you would say, “They grow old and mature gracefully.”
But if your grandparents lie, cheat, grab and fight, what would you say about that? Would that be called maturing?
To everyone, even to someone who does not consciously realize it, maturing means honest, gentle, and loving.
So, if you want to grow and mature, try to practice honesty, gentleness, and loving every day.
With compassion,
Hoành
