White lies

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

A white lie is what many people consider as a harmless lie, a lie that doesn’t hurt the listener or anyone else. So, many people use white lies all day. Those are the small harmless lies, they think.

The problem is that: Who tell you the that your lies are white or black, small or big?

Of course, you tell yourself. No one else can do it for you.

And if you determine white or black for yourself, your self judgment is in doubt, because you may have so many outrageously sinful lies that you label for yourself as “white.”

Also, almost all people who use white lies often are on a slippery slope: they start out with some arguably white lies, but soon they start to slide down the slippery slope – the liars’ lies become worse and worse and gradually become murderous lies, but the liars still call them white lies.

More importantly, all religions prohibit lying and have no exception for the so-called white lies or small lies. There are no such thing as white lies and small lies in any religion – a lie is a lie is a lie and therefore is a sin.

All the religions know that the great masters teach no-lying, without any exception. But people invent the so-called white lies and small lies, just so-that they can lie to themseves and circumvent the masters’ teaching, to freely lie.

Brothers and sisters, if you lie, no one other than you may know you lie – except God, the Buddhas, the Boddhisattvas, and the Saints. That is a whole lot of other souls can hear you. Ignore the spiritual world at your peril.

Religions understand well the self-judging issue and the slippery-slope issue, so religiosns simply prohibit lying without exception.

Folks, a lie is a lie is a lie! Just don’t lie. Bad for your soul and your development. Liars can never have confidence in themselves – the confident people don’t lie, they stand straight on their words. When you lie, you weaken your self-confidence – so you hurst yourself first and last.

If you can’t tell the truth, then keep your mouth shut. If you open your mouth to say something, then it has to be “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”

Don’t lie. And make sure your children don’t learn that bad and harmful habit from you – bad for their future and development.

With compassion,

Hoành
