Teaching and learning

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We are talking about teacher and student. In that relationship, most or all people of the world focus on the teacher – the student’s development depends on whether the teacher is good or bad and whether the teacher tries to do a good job.

This kind of relationship is probably good for pupils in the primary school and probably junior high or senior hight at most.

For the adults, teacher plays a very small role in the student’s development, especially in spiritual matters. The reasons are:

1. Most of the things the teacher teaches, the student already knows – don’t lie, don’t cheat, don’t steal, be honest, be loyal, be humble, be loving, be responsible, work hard.

Nothing the teacher can say is new to the student.

2. The teacher can teach all he wants, but it is the student who decides whether he will practice all the virtues and good deeds.

3. Most people are ignorant in the dark not because they don’t know the lessons, but because they don’t want to practice the lessons. Most people of the world read and talk but do not practice.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, no teacher in the world can do any good for you, because you already know whatever any teacher wants to tell you. I cannot teach you anything new because you already know everything I know.

Learning depends 100% on you, not on any teacher. And learning means practicing every day the virtues and good deeds for you to become the Enlightened, the Righteous, the High Cultivators (bậc thượng căn).

Just do the exercises for your soul constantly, every minute of your living life. All the spiritual lessons are simple, for you to live your life, not to read and talk.

With compassion,

Hoành
