Saigon and Hanoi shutdown all public entertainment places over coronavirus concerns

Authorities in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) of Vietnam has ordered local entertainment facilities, including bars and clubs, to shut down starting from Saturday evening in a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to a document issued by the People’s Committee in District 1, all forms of entertainment establishments including cinemas, massage parlors, bars, karaoke bars, discos, and beer clubs in the downtown district shall be suspended indefinitely from 6:00 pm on Saturday. Tuoi Tre Newspaper reports.

Finance ministers and central bank governors from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will meet in Vietnam later this month after initially weighing a proposal to postpone the summit due to the coronavirus. Authorities in Vietnam, which holds the Asean chairmanship, have confirmed the summit will now go ahead as scheduled, the Asean Secretariat said Thursday.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had been weighing a proposal to postpone the meeting, set to take place over four days in Halong Bay, a beach city north of Hanoi, beginning March 24. Finance and central bank officials from across Southeast Asia, as well as Japan, South Korea and China, had been expected to attend.

Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which first appeared in China at the end of last year, now exceed 115,000 as of March 10 and are likely to climb significantly higher. While over two-thirds of the total confirmed cases are in mainland China, the vast majority of new cases reported since February 25 have occurred outside the country. What was initially seen as a largely China-centric shock is now understood to be a global crisis. The virus’s spread has regrettably borne out analysts’ downside scenarios, with investors digesting the implications of disrupted supply chains, official containment measures, and spillovers from the real economy to financial markets. A decision by two of the world’s largest energy producers to maintain current levels of production, despite falling energy prices, has further unnerved investors while questions about governments’ abilities to mount an effective and coordinated response linger. Vietnam’s Ministry of Health just announced nine new cases of the novel coronavirus on Sunday afternoon (March 08, 2020).

All nine new cases are foreigners, who were on the same flight from London to Hanoi with the 17th case, 26-year-old Nguyen Hong Nhung, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus Friday after traveling to the three European countries last month.

TP – Đã hơn 1 năm kể từ ngày cơ quan Cảnh sát điều tra Công an tỉnh Đắk Lắk khởi tố vụ án xảy ra tại Sở Y tế về đấu thầu thuốc, tới nay vẫn chưa khởi tố bị can nào, dù thực tế không chỉ mỗi vấn đề đấu thầu thuốc có dấu hiệu sai phạm nghiêm trọng.

WHO chief says widespread travel bans not needed to beat China virus

GENEVA (Reuters) – World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday there was no need for measures that “unnecessarily interfere with international travel and trade” in trying to halt the spread of a coronavirus that has killed 361 people in China.

“We call on all countries to implement decisions that are evidence-based and consistent,” Tedros told the WHO executive board, reiterating his message from last week when he declared an international emergency.

China is facing increasing international isolation due to restrictions on flights to and from the country, and bans on travellers from China.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – Foreign tourists normally pour into Vietnam to see colonial architecture and limestone jutting out of the sea. Now some are headed to Vietnam’s clinics and hospitals. They’re part of Asia’s latest medical tourism industry.

Vietnamese officials hope medical tourists will emerge from the threefold increase in arrivals between 2010 and 2018. The key attractions: dentists and cosmetic surgery.

Chiều 18.7, bé N.K.A.D, 22 tháng tuổi, ở huyện Củ Chi, TPHCM, nhập BV Nhi đồng 2 trong tình trạng sốt, mệt mỏi li bì, xanh tím toàn thân. Sau khám xét, chụp X-quang và siêu âm tim, các BS khoa Hồi sức tích cực – chống độc loại trừ bệnh lý tim, phổi. Tuy nhiên, kết quả xét nghiệm máu cho thấy nồng độ MetHemoglobin (MetHb) rất cao, đến 30% (bình thường 0 – 3%). Gia đình khai, buổi sáng bé sốt cao nên đã mài sừng tê giác, cho uống để hạ sốt, phòng co giật.

Trẻ sinh ra bị ảnh hưởng bởi HIV/AIDS được xem là đối tượng thiệt thòi nhất, bởi không có quyền lựa chọn và bị hạn chế rất nhiều trong việc tiếp cận, thụ hưởng quyền của trẻ em.

“Không ai chơi với con”

Chỉ vui vẻ với các bạn trong cùng trung tâm nhưng luôn có thái độ e dè, cảnh giác và không muốn trả lời người lạ, đây gần như là phản ứng chung của những đứa trẻ “có H”. T.M sinh ra đã nhiễm HIV từ mẹ. 4 tuổi, mẹ mất, bé được gửi vào trung tâm bảo trợ trẻ em của TP Hồ Chí Minh. Trong trí nhớ của cô bé học lớp 3 này, hình ảnh người mẹ rất nhạt nhòa và bé hoàn toàn không nhớ nhà mình ở đâu. T.M không biết bệnh của mình là gì, có nguy hiểm hay không, chỉ biết rằng khi đến trường, cô bé thường lủi thủi một mình vì: “Các bạn nói con bị SIDA, không ai chơi với con”.

Sự thật về công hiệu của thịt rừng, đáng tiếc, lại không giống như “truyền thuyết”

Có thật là đặc sản?

“Đặc sản” được hiểu là “sản phẩm đặc biệt của một vùng, một địa phương” (Từ điển tiếng Việt), và thường đã là đặc sản thì phải ngon, bổ, đẹp, lạ và có yếu tố văn hóa của từng vùng.

Thịt rừng được coi là đặc sản chỉ vì đúng một chữ “rừng”. Người ta tin rằng những con thú sống trong hoang dã, tự tìm thức ăn, vận động nhiều, biết cách tìm những loại lá, rễ “đặc biệt” trong rừng để ăn thì vừa ngon hơn, vừa có tác dụng như thuốc bổ mà không có tác dụng phụ như thuốc tây.

Trong 3 vụ xét xử nói trên, có 2 vụ ở Mỹ và 1 vụ ở Pháp.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — One-third of children worldwide under age 5 — about 200 million youngsters — are either undernourished or overweight, undermining their full potential to grow and develop, the U.N. children’s agency said in a report Tuesday.

UNICEF also said almost two-thirds of children aged 6 months to 2 years are not fed food that supports their rapidly growing bodies and brains.

Worldwide, 800,000 people die by suicide each year – one every 40 seconds – making it the second leading cause of death among young people (aged 15 to 29), the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday, spotlighting suicide prevention as the theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day.

“Mental health has been neglected for too long,” Secretary-General António Guterres said in a video message for the Day, saying it needs to be addressed urgently, as a matter “that concerns us all.”
