HANOI/OSAKA — Air conditioner manufacturers around the world are locking horns in Vietnam, whose market has become the second largest in Southeast Asia as rapid economic growth supports a burgeoning middle class.

Vietnam’s market for the cooling systems ranked as Asia’s eighth largest in 2011, excluding Japan and China, with about 660,000 units sold. But the country surpassed Thailand in 2015, and sales of 1.98 million units in 2016 lifted the nation into third behind India and Indonesia.

Online sale of elephant tusks continues to boom

Elephant tusks are available in many places, from souvenir shops and jewelry shops to tourist sites. But the sales there are very small compared with transactions via online markets.

MT, at No 81-83 Nguyen Van Cu street, is a well known souvenir shop in Buon Ma Thuot City. There are many stalls inside, including a jewelry and souvenir stall which display products made of elephant tusks.

Online sale of elephant tusks continues to boom

N, a salesman, showed many products, from bracelets, rings, pens, combs and a section of an elephant tail with black feathers. Each feather was priced at VND100,000.

HÀ NỘI — Seventeen bears – which used to be kept in captivity and illegally traded to harvest their bile – are living in a bear conservation centre in the northern province of Ninh Bình.

The centre was inaugurated by Four Paws, an international animal welfare organisation, in March 2019, in Kỳ Phú Commune, Nho Quan District.

Vietnam among top 5 countries importing plastic waste in 2018

Since May 2018, imports of scrap plastic have banned at major ports in Vietnam until further notice. In July 2018, the Vietnamese government announced it will no longer issue new license for plastic waste import.

(CNN) Forty-seven years ago, on 22 April 1970, millions of people took to the streets to protest the negative impacts of 150 years of industrial development.

In the US and around the world, smog was becoming deadly and evidence was growing that pollution led to developmental delays in children. Biodiversity was in decline as a result of the heavy use of pesticides and other pollutants.

TTCT – Cho đến giờ, khi nói đến các hạt trong không khí có hại cho sức khỏe và gây ô nhiễm khí hậu, người ta vẫn cho rằng khí thải từ xe cộ giao thông là thủ phạm chính. Tuy nhiên, mới đây các nhà nghiên cứu ở thành phố Karlsruhe (Đức) sau một nghiên cứu dài hạn, đã xác định thêm các nguồn gây ô nhiễm khác.

Các hạt siêu mịn (bụi siêu mịn) được coi là đặc biệt có hại cho sức khỏe, đồng thời cũng có tác động quan trọng đến khí hậu. Ở những khu vực đông dân cư, trước đây giao thông đường bộ được coi là nguồn gốc chính tạo ra các hạt nhỏ này.

Tuy nhiên các nhà nghiên cứu tại Viện Công nghệ Karlsruhe (KIT) – trong một chương trình quan trắc dài hạn – đã xác định được một nguồn có liên quan đặc biệt ở bên ngoài các thành phố: các nhà máy nhiệt điện than.

As China stops solid waste imports, Vietnam fears it could become new dumping ground

China has vowed to stop importing solid waste by 2020, while Vietnam is still fumbling for solutions to control scrap imports.

Chinese agencies on March 28 announced the country’s plan to cut solid waste imports to zero percent by 2020 with an aim of encouraging plants to treat the high amount of domestic waste.

Prior to that, eight categories of steel, copper and aluminum scrap were added to the list of prohibited items in early 2019 and 24 categories of plastic scraps appeared in the list in late 2017.

HỘI AN — The appearance of a 15ha sandbank, 1.8km off the Cửa Đại Beach since early this year offers a chance to research changing riverhead flows and sand sedimentation at lower lands, according to experts.

The emergence of the sandbank could lead to solutions to help save Cửa Đại Beach, 5km from UNESCO-recognised world heritage site Hội An City, from serious erosion over past decades.

  2. Tránh sử dụng hộp nhựa trong lò vi sóng.Hóa chất được giải phóng từ nhựa khi đun nóng. Thay vào đó, sử dụng hộp đựng bằng thủy tinh hoặc gốm, không sơn kim loại.
  3. Cẩn thận với màng bọc thực phẩm, đặc biệt là khi sử dụng lò vi sóng.

2018 was the fourth warmest year since records began in 1880, according to studies out today from NASA, the UK Met Office, and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Record-breaking: The NASA study found that Earth’s global surface temperature last year was 0.83 °C warmer than the 1951-1980 mean. That temperature was topped only in 2016, 2017, and 2015. The data shows that the last five years are collectively the warmest ever recorded, while 18 of the 19 hottest years have taken place since 2001. The NOAA study, which uses a different methodology, agreed.
