Les États-Unis fourniront au Vietnam un autre navire pour renforcer sa capacité de patrouiller dans ses eaux territoriales, a annoncé mercredi le secrétaire d’Etat américain à la Défense, Mark Esper, en visite de travail dans le pays de l’Asie du Sud-Est.
Cette déclaration d’Esper intervient dans un contexte marqué par des tensions grandissantes entre Hanoï et Pékin sur fond de leur différend territorial en mer de l’Est (mer de Chine méridionale).

Navy warships have sailed near islands claimed by China in the disputed South China Sea twice in the past few days, the United States military told Reuters on Thursday, at a time of tension between the world’s two-largest economies.
The threat of China should bring two former enemies into a tight security relationship.

Vietnam is a country bursting with youthful energy. A Chinese oil survey vessel that had been operating illegally in Vietnam’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and Continental Shelf for more than three months made its exit from Vietnam’s waters on Thursday, Reuters reported.
The Chinese vessel, the Haiyang Dizhi 8, was tracked speeding away from Vietnam’s EEZ towards China on Thursday under the escort of at least two Chinese ships, Reuters reported, citing data from Marine Traffic, a website that tracks vessels.
