HÀ NỘI — The environment ministry has agreed not to dump nearly one million cubic metre of waste mud discarded by a power plant into Bình Thuận Province’s sea following public outcry against the plan.The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Ministry reported on Wednesday that it approved a proposal by Bình Thuận authorities in which the mud and waste sand of Vĩnh Tân 1 thermal power plant would be dumped at Vĩnh Tân Port instead of the sea.

(TBKTSG) – Khung thuế bảo vệ môi trường đối với túi nylon đang được đề xuất tăng từ 30.000-50.000 đồng/ki lô gam hiện nay lên mức 40.000-200.000 đồng/ki lô gam. Liệu đề xuất này có góp phần thay đổi hành vi tiêu dùng và mở ra cơ hội cho các nhà sản xuất túi thân thiện với môi trường?
Theo Bộ Tài chính, nhiều nước trên thế giới đang áp dụng mức thuế bảo vệ môi trường đối với túi nylon khá cao, như Anh Quốc hay Ailen đang đánh thuế 15 cent/túi (tương đương 4.500 đồng/túi); Hồng Kông 0,05 đô la Mỹ/túi (tương đương 1.050 đồng/túi), Estonia dự kiến thu thuế ở mức 2 kroons/túi (tương đương 3.000 đồng/túi)… Một số nước khác còn cấm sản xuất, bán, sử dụng túi nylon mỏng, như Trung Quốc cấm túi nylon có độ dày dưới 0,025 mi li mét.

VietNamNet Bridge – Scientists are concerned about the nix particle treatment solution planned by Hyundai Vinashin (HVS), saying that the particles may be dispersed in the air during transportation.
HVS, the Khanh Hoa-based shipbuilding yard, has signed a contract with three companies on carrying nix particles (copper slag) out of Khanh Hoa province to be provided to factories which will use the particles as additives in cement manufacturing.

On June 23, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment granted a licence to the Vinh Tan 1 Thermal Power Plant to sink one million cubic metres of sludge near the Hon Cau Marine Protected Area, one of 16 such areas in the country.
The Hon Cau Marine Protected Area contains a 2km long coral reef and 234 kinds of corals that is home to many rare marine species.

Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam risks a loss of 7.2 million tonnes of rice yield and 3.2 per cent of its agricultural land by the late 21st century as a result of climate change, according to a Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecast.
