What challenges does agriculture in the Mekong Delta face today?

The Mekong Delta is a land carpeted in endless shades of greens, a magical water world that is being destroyed by climate change and environmental pollution, says the Vietnam Environment Administration.
Some 20 million people call the Mekong Delta home, and 60 million are dependent on the natural environment of river system for their livelihoods, says the Environment Administration.
The Mekong Delta, as local folklore suggests, is a lifelong partner of the Vietnamese that provides the people wisdom and guidance.

Factories in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring Binh Duong Province have secretly been dumping industrial wastewater into an already seriously contaminated canal, leaving local officials scratching their heads.

Viet Nam News HCM CITY — HCM City and southern provinces are being battered by heavy rains in the first 10 days of October. The heavy rains, together with high river tides, will cause flooding in many places, the Southern Hydrometeorology Station has forecast.
Dự án Thủy điện Sơn La là dự án đập thủy điện lớn nhất và phức tạp nhất từng được xây dựng ở Việt Nam. Dự án sẽ di dời hơn 91.000 người dân tộc thiểu số, đòi hỏi sự tái định cư lớn nhất trong lịch sử Việt Nam. Hầu hết người dân sẽ phải di dời đến nơi cách nhà hiện tại của mình từ 50 đến 100 km và không còn được tiếp cận với sông Đà – một nguồn sinh kế đối với phần lớn người dân.
Những người bị ảnh hưởng gồm 10 nhóm dân tộc thiểu số khác nhau, trong đó người Thái chiếm đa số. Họ sống chủ yếu dựa vào sông và trồng lúa nước. Một trong những mối lo ngại chính là thiếu đất canh tác cho tái định cư khi hàng chục ngàn người dân bị di dời.
